One of my dearest friends in Rye is moving back to her native Canada next week. So in between house showings and coordinating her movers, she let me (us) into her beautiful home, so we can see how to “show a house” for selling.
She even “styled” the bistro table outside the kitchen window. Chairs in her signature color!
The family room has pops of orange – love the Hermes blanket – and loads of books!
The “fur” covered ottoman makes a comfy spot for relaxing by the fire or watching t.v. The oversize map of London (another spot they’ve lived) balances out the proportions of the room.
Every girl needs her space ~ and this is hers ~ the living room. Cream furniture, Moooi chandelier and pink dress painting (a gift from her husband) create a room that is feminine without being fussy.
A black and white photo of a mod (Burberry clad) Kate Moss is another nod to their time in London!
Here’s a view of the living room, looking toward her husband’s office. Doesn’t every man want a room to call his own?
If you’ve been thinking of doing a room for your fella, take a look. With the grand zebra print chair and a view of not 1, but 3 computer screens, your guy can watch the market, the tournament and still update his ipod playlist!
My friend’s husband is not only tech savvy, he’s music savvy ~ his collection of guitars (yes, he plays) became the “art” in the room.
Against a dark ceiling, which matches the walls, this silver candelabra chandelier really stands out.
All of the furniture in the dining room belonged to her great-grandmother. She simply had it refinished to bring out its natural beauty.
Beautiful and she did a wonderful job!! We are in midst of selling (and showing) our house and so I totally relate to your post!! I am looking forward to getting our home sold so we can move into our dream home…the decorating in my mind has already started!! Have a wonderful weekend!
Ummmm……sold!
Sweet Maple syrup! What a home! I love that it is (as my Mother say's) insert Southern accent…I just love when a home is all "picked up" and everything is in place. I have a friend moving….to :London: and promised to visit. Friends
pve
I would put my house on the market just so that I could have carte blanche in staging it. No wonder your friend's home sold – it's beautiful! And the pretty pink party dress painting – so lovely!
More fabulousness from Rye…completely jealous! Such a lovely home!
I would be sad to have my friend leave and I would be sad that I couldn't hang out at her GORGEOUS home. That's what I really like about it, it was beautiful and warm and a perfect place to let "life" go on. Lucky new homeowners & I would love to see what she does with her new place!
Wow, gorgeous! I am always amazed by the style in Rye. LOVE the pink dress painting over the fireplace.
is she sure she wants to leave that place? it's beautiful!
Being married to a Naval Officer has provided for a move or two. It's always hard to say "see you soon" after finding something that you just click with.
Canada is lovely. I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit.

oops ~ that should read someone not something.
Thanks for sharing your friend's lovely home and her style!
What a lovely home – I can see why it sold so easily. It's always hard to have friends move, but I think you will enjoy visiting her in Toronto. I live just outside Toronto and recently did 2 posts about interesting places to visit. Here are the links in case you missed them: http://gracie-senseandsimplicity.blogspot.com/2010/06/hanging-with-cool-kids-in-toronto-part.html, http://gracie-senseandsimplicity.blogspot.com/2010/06/hanging-with-cool-kids-in-toronto-part_15.html
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I'll move to Canada if I can live in that house! wow. it's gorgeous. i think my favorite room though is the living room with that light fixture and the painting of the dress over the mantel. Although every room is spectacular.
oh wait. i just misread. you mean this house is in the US? okay, i'm relocating. 🙂
i bet it's sold already though!
Hi all – thanks for all the great comment, and forgive the late response – we flew over the pond last night and are adjusting to Paris time! 🙂 Just ran into a friend I took piano with since I was 6 – what are the odds????
Happy Weekend!
xo, Elizabeth
Elizabeth,Beautiful post. I agree with everyone. Sad to lose a friend so close by. I'm sure you will be making a trip real soon. Then you will have to share pics of her new house. Hope you are having a fabulous trip! Mona
