It’s back to school time! Some of you have children returning this week….others, like mine, start after Labor Day.
It truly seems like yesterday that Carter went off to Kindergarten – here he is on his first day!
He’s moving on to 3rd grade and his little brother is starting Kindergarten. So, with that….I want to make it a memorable day.
You may have heard of the German tradition called the Schultuete (Sugar Bag), a cone shaped gift bag that is stuffed with sweets and school related items, like pencils, sharpeners, crayones, etc…
You can make your own….or you can order one via Chasing Fireflies, which can be personalized with your child’s name. You can hang it on the back of their chair, so they see it when they come down for breakfast on the big day.
Tablescapes need not be limited to guests…I love spreading confetti on the kitchen table and tying some balloons onto their chirs to make the 1st day of school a celebration! Making the grade are these personalized Handwriting placemats from La Plates.
Packing their lunches? Check out the reusable ziplocks from Lunchskins and backpacks and labels from La Plates. They might just be tempted to eat something healthy when the packaging is this swell!
Loving this award winning alarm clock/nightlight I ordered Ty! It’s the Teach Me Clock, which is designed for 3+. Parents can set the clock to go from yellow to green – meaning it’s time to get up (or in the case of our early bird….it’s ok to come into mom and dad’s room).
And for all my mom friends, whose children are headed for Texas, Duke, Elon, Boston College and Miami of Ohio…..consider making their ringtone their college fight song! You’ll never have to guess who’s calling!
Here’s to a great school year everyone!
xo, Elizabeth
As much as I anticipate the new school year and the settling in of new patterns, I also hate to know that Summer salutations are now summer's finale.
What wonderful treats you have to celebrate the start of something new.

We're not quick there yet with Gray, but love these ideas for the future. I adore that clock. We might just have to get that one soon because it's just too cool!
Elizabeth,
What a fun filled post you've created here! I just saw the cone shaped goodie packages at the NYIGF and thought they were so much fun! I'd use them for birthday party favors too…hint, hint!
What a great way to make the first day of school memorable – too bad it's always a mad rush to get my boys on the bus at 7! Though throwing confetti as they drive away might be fun!
That is so, so sweet! My mom always did things like that for us when we were little, and I still remember them today, it really meant so much! Your darling children are so lucky to have such a creative mama!
such a cute post-making me a little worried as I haven't gotten anything done yet to get the kiddies ready-love your little carter! have a fantastic day, xxBarbara
I love how you celebrate life! What fun and creative ideas!!
You are a cool Mom… creating so many wonderful memories for you kids!
Your post brought back my own 1st Day of School Memories.

Back to school is like D Day 🙂 Thanks for participating in my give away and have a lovely week. It will be quieter at home no that school has started!
So clever! Love the pictures 🙂 Yes, I am jealous that you have the after labor day start. We had open house today and it all begins tomorrow! Thanks for the post party here 🙂 I am SO thankful for uniforms right now!!!
Carter is just adorable. You are a wonderful Mother. What a busy, busy time this is right now!
Hi, me again…I had a Schultuete!!! I attended 1st grade (that's the only grade usually that gets one) in Germany. It was such a BIG deal to pick one out. I lived in a small village in Bavaria while my Dad was working on an expat assignment. We had moved from Belgium. I had to wait all day to open it. It was only opened after we visited school and then attended a church service all the while holding the Schultuete. I hadn't thought of that in a long time…I had no idea people did that here in the US!!
This brings back such great memories! My mom was German and she gave us a schultuete when we started school the first time. I plan to do the same for my son when he starts kindergarden!
If you are open to having a guest blog poster please reply and let me know. I will provide you with unique content for your blog, thanks.
