Southern Living arrived today – thanks, Mr. Postman! And, I love this simple, earthy, autumn treat. Just what I imagine Hansel and Gretel might have enjoyed!
- Remove the stems from apples
- Melt a 14 oz package of caramels with 1 Tbs vanilla and 1 Tbs water, stirring every 30 seconds
- Drizzle over apples
- Dip apples in crushed peanut brittle or crushed pecans
- Let rest on wax paper for 15 minutes
- Insert branch*
For testing purposes, Southern magnolia branches were used.
Wouldn’t you like to take a bite out of that?
Cute idea!
I got SL for
years but recently
exchanged it for
Midwest Living.
This snippet makes
me really miss it.
Thanks for sharing!
xx Suzanne
PS: Two parcels are
now on their way to
you….
I'm sending the kids out to pick up the fallen branches – Yum!
WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Going to buy apples and caramel ASAP! thanks for sharing.

I would indeed! And so easy to make. I'm afraid I haven't even taken a peek into my newest SOUTHERN LIVING, you'v inspired me to find the time today.
Susan
That's what I call a "sweet apple" 🙂
I just included this in an upcoming post too! xx
How easy is that! Love it…
Would you believe……I have NEVER had a caramel apple? I have dipped apple slices in caramel….but never had a 'caramel apple'. I think I even have the caramel sheets from the grocery store in the pantry lol but I have never used them!
One of our favorite fall treats – apples with caramel! Also one of my favorite magazines. And conveniently I am traveling in the south right now — need some southern magnolia branches?!
Sounds good. Would you make some for me? I'm just too tired. Ha!
I was just sitting at my sons practice tonight reading this issue!! And guess what, I ripped out this page 🙂 I plan to take a bite and my boys are excited as well!
Elizabeth,
My first job out of college was working for Southern Living! I learned to much! My favorite part though was that every recipe that appears in the magazine is tested in their test kitchens. On really good days they would bring samples up for us to try!
Stacy, that's so fun to know where you got your start!!
Stitchfork – if I lived across the street from you, I'd take you up on your offer of branches!!
xo Elizabeth
holy moly- put those in front of me right now, and you would see some very un-ladylike behavior!! 😉
Helpful blog, bookmarked the website with hopes to read more!
