My son received this book, by Kathryn Otoshi, for his birthday. He loves it so much, we read it nearly every night at bedtime. And you know what? I don’t mind at all. In fact, I think it’s one of the best children’s books I’ve ever read.
Here’s an excerpt…
Don’t worry. The story has a wonderful ending and provides an opportunity to talk with your children about that hot topic, bullying. In a way they can understand what it looks like….and with tools on how to stand up to it.
One has won 10 awards, including the E.B. White Read Aloud Honor and the Teachers’ Choice Award and introduces concepts that include: acceptance, tolerance, what it means to stand up, make a difference and count!
Which then led me to her new release, Zero.
Zero admires other numbers who can count. She wants to count, too and wonders how a number worth nothing becomes something. Zero is the story of her search to find value in herself and in others.
If you have a young child or need a gift for a child…this is it!
Don’t we all just want to have meaning and to count?
One of my favorite books along with "The Giving Tree"- I cry every time I read it. I think we all deserve to count, any color or number. You are a super Mom to share such great books with your children.

Elizabeth …. this is so true we all want to count and in fact, I believe we do. These stories are gorgeous and so true and relevant to what our children and us, as parents, go through. Thank-you for such a beautiful post!
best wishes

My children loved One so much that when it came time to donate the "little boy" books, we kept it… and still read it on occasion as a bedtime book. Perhaps they're not too old for the lessons in Zero!

What wonderful books.
These look wonderful. My kids are teenagers, but I am always on the lookout for presents for my younger friends!
I don't have any children yet…but these books will be incorporated into their early reading…what a wonderful message that needs to be learned! Take care, Caroline
I love this, Elizabeth! So sweet. I have the fondest memories of children's books from when I was little, they really stay with you. XX!
My daughter is all grown up now, but reading was always a priority and I miss all those wonderful children's books we used to share. Some were unbearably beautiful, in their story and artwork. I have a box packed away in the basement that were just too priceless to part with. Hopefully, we'll pull them out again some day to share with a new little one.
