Last week, I had the pleasure of attending an event at Hoagland’s, one of my all time favorite Greenwich stores. In business since the 1930s, this is the spot where brides register and keepsake gifts for new babies are bought.
The evening, sponsored by Connecticutt Cottages and Gardens, highlighted 2 distinct names in design. Herend and Diane James. My focus, this evening, though was on the flowers and the elegant women behind the flowers.
Diane began creating her couture floral creations over a decade ago. Now, with her beautiful twin daughter, Carolyn and Cynthia, running the “business side” of things, Diane is able to focus on creating designs and meeting her customers.

So, for anyone who has ever thought Faux is strictly a no-no, you need to know Diane James. Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf’s do — and that’s where you can find them, in addition to Hoagland’s, of course!
Which arrangement speaks to you?
love the all white, or the one with the magnolia blossoms.
pretty ladies! pretty flowers!

I have the place mat (peach color) in the first photo – how exciting! 🙂
Happy Autumn weekend to you!
It was so sweet of you to come out on a rainy Friday night to see us! Thank you for your gorgeous pictures and wonderful post.

She is so talented, I agree! Faux is okay if you're very careful with it. We have a "Hoagland's" here in Savannah, it's called The Cottage Shop, and you have to register there when you get married, it's just one of those things. :). Have a wonderful weekend! XX!
Sounds like a fun evening out! All three of the Diane James gals are gorgeous! I was always against faux flowers, but then again I wasn't shopping at Bergdorf's for them! Now, that I've seen the Diane James collection I have a different opinion. Diane James has perfected the ultimate in gorgeous flowers that never wilt!
Lovely all around! The tablescapes, the flowers and of course the talented ladies behind DJH!
Go faux if you have the pleasure to know those gals! Last time I checked, my house is no Bergdorf showroom, so if it's good enough for them…it's going to be show stopping for me!! I love hearing about all your adventures Elizabeth. You have such a passion for so much and I love that. What a wonderful circle of friends you've got. Much like Diane James arrangement!! XO, Kelly
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! Diane is just amazing. THat first photo is just breathtaking with the pink…Would look perfect in your home:)

Was so sorry to miss this lovely event – everything looks beautiful. But of course with the combination of Hoaglands and DJF I would expect nothing less!
Beautiful!!! My favorite is the first…pink…gold…gorgeous!!
Gorgeous arrangements–thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful event! Have I ever asked you if you have any ideas for a trunk show hostess for my line? I don't think we have any there and I think it would do well. http://www.kaycehughes.com
I would love any help.
Oh, my, the plate
with the bird is
so ME….is it Herend?
That whole table scape
speaks to me, actually!
What a wonderful night.
I bet I know which one
you liked : ) !!

ahhh, table settings with beautiful china, flatware, crystal and flowers are one of the things that bring me much joy and these are all gorgeous examples. i want to host a party now! wish i had some of this china. and energy too. that would help!
What a lovely post. I was always against faux until you told us about Diane James. Your pictures are beautiful and her arrangements exquisite. I especially love the peonies and the plate with the bird is gorgeous. I remember Hoagland's from my CT days. Thanks so much for this lovely post.
Gorgeous, all of them. Would not have known they were faux. She is a real talent.
Love all things Diane James…especially Caroline & Cynthia. Looks so fun. Thanks for sharing with those of us who couldn't attend.
i love that! i didn't even realize they weren't real… i'm a bit of a purist on real florals over fake… but these could sway me over to the "dark side." 🙂
