I’ve been spending some hours indoors at our local ice rink, getting both my boys ready to skate outdoors at some quintessential New York City spaces. The rinks have opened for the season, so lace up your skates and take a spin around the city.
The Pond at Bryant Park is the only free admission rink in NYC.
Of course, hot chocolate breaks are considered mandatory in our family.
Have you ever skated in one of these iconic places?
Yes, while being the typical tourist! Camera in hand (of course) and let's just say my middle name is NOT grace. I tried, I still love…a challenge! Now hot cocoa…that's something I can do very well 🙂 XO
Yes, I have skated on Ice in NY, at all three including a roof-top (years ago) with a professional ice skater.
Bringing your own skates is advisable.

Brunch and skating at Rockefeller Center has been a family tradition for years and one the boys still look forward to even in their teens!
xxoo
that hot chocolate looks awesome! 🙂 i'm growing courage to go ice skating somewhere equally glam this christmas in london. they have some great venues as well.
this makes me think of the movie, serendipity. 🙂
This is on my list for next year *fingers crossed* I would love to skate on these rinks just to say I have done it!
love the new header! and i love that they put ice skating in bryant park. so cool.
I love your new header too!! NYC is a place I would love to live (as is Charleston)…and we visit yearly due to that…but usually in the spring so I have never gone ice skating in one of those places…but have always wanted to! Take care, Caroline
I have hung up my ice skates, but am a pro at getting the hot chocolate! xo Cathy
The holidays are officially here…beautiful images and save me one of those hot chocolates 🙂
So loooovvvve NY and visit as often as I can. Your post conjures up the way it feels when you walk inside after playing out in the snow to a waiting cup of cocoa! xo
I wish, I wish! Maybe someday…we love hot chocolate too.
Growing up in Michigan we were always ice skating ~ my favorite was skating with the MSU hockey team. The lines have always been too long when we visit the city so we hit the shops instead:)

My youngest is actually a figure skater, so we obviously spend a lot of time at our local rink. She has always wanted to skate at Rockefeller center but we would have to bring her skates in etc. which then precludes doing much else -we'll see. The hot chocolate certainly looks enticing though.
I have lived my whole life either in the tri-state area or actually in NYC and have never set foot in one of these iconic rinks, despite the fact that this is the only winter sport I know how to do! Weird right? 🙂
Fun to see places from my childhood. As I girl I skated at Rockefeller Center. It was such a surprise to me that the rink is so much smaller than it appears to be in photos. Then lunch in the English Grill. All fond memories.
Nope, was always on my list when I lived there, but did I ever make it? No, I did not! Ha, I was having a bit of a hard time during my NYC years. I do love to ice skate though, we always went when I was little. So fun! XX!
I had the pleasure
of a 48-hour trip
to NYC when my hubby
had business there
last December. It was
so much fun shopping
the little booths at
Bryant Park and watching
the skaters : ) Best
city to be in at Christmas
time, bar none!
xx Suzanne
this is one of those moments when i wish i lived in/near NYC. jealous!!!
