Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon supporting one of my town’s treasures, the National Historic Landmark home of American Founding Father, John Jay.
The keynote speaker was Alexa Hampton, one of America’s most influential designers, who has joined the advisory board of the Jay Heritage Center.
Over lunch, Alexa regaled us with stories and slides of her projects, which could be found in her book as well as in her own home.
Though she had many witty things to say, I thought she had a great take on interior design. I’m paraphrasing, but it went something like this: “Like Julie Andrew’s….when you know the notes to sing, you can sing just about anything.”
The same holds true for interior design. You may be a master or just dabble, but if you know the elements involved, you can be better informed about the decisions you make. And, happier with the results.
Like the friends I was with, I took advantage of having Alexa sign a copy of her book, Alexa Hampton: The Language of Interior Design, for me.
And as long as I was there….and Alexa was signing books….I got a book for one of you!
Make sure you’re a follower and leave a comment below by Sunday night at midnight. Anonymous commenters are welcome – just leave an email so I can contact you if you win!
So, that’s it….a little holiday gift from me to you…Alexa did the signing. I’ll do the sealing and delivering!

Way to get involved in a fun and meaningful way. I just became American and John Jay was an answer on the test!

Alexa's penmanship is beautiful and no doubt the book is equally as regal as she!

I'm just green with envy. You get to do the most fun things. I have been a fan of Alexa's for a long time. The first design book I ever bought years ago was her father's , Mark Hampton On Design. She has a wonderful heritage, and this is a great giveaway. I'll add a link to my facebook page today!
Looks a fun party – for a great cause – always the perfect combination. I hear she is a wonderful speaker – very open, natural and funny. Her book is wonderful – I wrote a review of it last month!
