It all began with an email. “These have your name on them! Incredible color, very unusual.” The email came from Eddie & Jaithan, who were scouring the Renninger’s Flea Market in Florida for great stuff.
“Love them, how many?” I replied. There were 10. So the fellas wrapped them up and brought them home. Turns out they are from the 1880s. How fun is that?!
Lucky me….Eddie and Jaithan were in town last weekend for a friend’s birthday, so I got them via personal delivery!
I’m hosting a book club luncheon this week…and these glasses are the perfect color and style to match our book, Cleopatra! I dug out my mother’s Gold Florentine china plates and some placemats I bought years ago at Sue Fisher King, in San Francisco.
I think it’s going to make for a fantastic table setting. Only problem? I haven’t finished the book!
What is inspiring your entertaining lately?

Can i join your book club?? Wow our book club get togethers DO NOT look like this!! What an elegant soiree…..and I love the glasses, such an elegant throwback..love how they are fitting in with your theme….gorgeous!
Uh oh… cliff notes?! hee hee. What a gorgeous find and such a stylish party. If you were nearby I would totally invite myself! Have fun, Cutie! xo
Wow what a great way to look through rose colored glasses.Just beautiful.
Those glasses are amazing…the perfect compliment to your chicer than chic place mats…your lucky book group!
One could definitely say you're well "red" – couldn't resist! Love your inspiration for a Cleopatra dinner and can't wait to hear what you serve. E and J are such dolls!
xxoo
Very nice!!! And perfect for the book– Oh, I always have problems finishing the book in time for book club! Take care, Caroline
Love the glasses – was so nice of Eddie to think of you. Your table is going to look uber chic. Love all your beautiful table top elements. Don't forget to take a picture!!
I do hope you can recline, have someone palm you with fronds, whilst peeling grapes for you as you find your inner Cleopatra as you finish the book. You will be the Queen of your book club with those glasses, and that setting. Will you wear a wig and Egyptian toga?

Can I join the book club? So chic. And I love someone who has the table set before finishing the actual "homework." That's the way it should always be!
Turns out I'm hosting book club tonight and it's not going to be anything so chic.
Elizabeth,
Wow! What a gorgeous setting you are creating…all pieces are equally fabulous! The glasses are super devine, the placemats having me drooling into my keyboard and the China is stunning! And, of course the book matches the anticipated design for your luncheon. I'm thinking I need to work my way into your book club if get togethers are that stylish.
lovely glasses x
your table is going to look wonderful with those glasses…
Beautiful!!
You put so much effort into your book club!
I have noticed the American bloggers always dress nice and have place settings etc for their meetings…around here it's sweats and paper plates!
I love the rose colored glasses, what a fantastic find for you–perfect for your gorgeous table setting. Have fun with Book Club…And definitely, deciding on a setting is more important than finishing the book!
I agree- my book club tonight is not going to be so chic! But you have inspired me to try a little harder the next time I host our book club!
What a nice personal delivery! And I am in love with the table setting, goes so beautifully with the book…and might that tureen be the one you got from E&J…the one that started it all:)
Lucky you to count Jaithan and Eddie among your friends, AND that they shop for you. Those glasses are exquisite. Your book club will be so elegant.
I love that y'all understand that it is not unusual for me to put the table before the book – though i've just gotten to the exciting chapters!!! Can you say all nighter?!
And, to answer Gretchen's question…yes….that little white and gold tureern is what started the whole friendship with E+J. I count myself lucky to have them in my life.
OK….off to lunch duty!
xo Elizabeth

You Lucky Girl!! You have Eddie and Jaithan as personal shoppers!! I went crazy on that One King's Lane Duquette sale. Things fall out of shopping carts all day long (you can only hold an item without a purchase for 15 minutes). I got the orange sofa that TD designed for his SF house. I am beyond excited!! Come oggle!
Best,
Liz
Oh!! In all my excitement, I forgot to mention we read Cleopatra, too. I was the only one who enjoyed it. Are those placemats Lynn Chase? I must have them!!
Best,
Liz

I haven't done much entertaining lately, Elizabeth, but your table setting is gorgeous!
Your personal shopper friends scored big time for you on that set of glasses. And you're going to need more as it looks like you'll be starting a waiting list to join your book club!
xo Cathy — chillin' in sunny Florida for a few days!
The only thing better than the gorgeous red glasses was to have them deliverd by Eddie and Jaithan!! Your book club is going to be fabulous!!
so beautiful; what a find. nothing like having friends with excellent taste to bring you treasures!!
That's why book clubs can be so great, if you haven't finished, it's still pretty easy to pull off conversation and get great cliff notes 🙂 I think the talk of the night will be the perfect 10 red sensations! How fun, I love your postal service!!!! XO, Kelly
Stunning! I'd hire you to design a table setting for my book jacket any old time. And of course, with E&J as your secret shoppers, it's much easier.
I was just wondering when you had time to read? Your setting is going to be gorgeous. Can you get cliff notes?
