One of my fondest childhood memories is of our church’s ice cream socials in the summertime. All the families brought their big old fashioned ice cream makers – you remember the kind – rock salt, loud churning noise. But, ohhhhh, such delicious results. It meant that I got ice cream for dinner AND dessert!
Well, those days came flooding back to me when I saw this adorable story in the latest issue of RUE. I was especially struck by this old fashioned ice cream cart from Sweet Lucie’s.
They cater parties and can feed up to 500 guests from the cart. Only one problem. They are in Southern California and I live in New York.
Any budding entrepreneurs out there? I think this would be a sweet idea for a summer business!
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Good morning! So agree, I think a lot of us have fond memories of homemade ice cream…yummy! My dad use to churn his old trusty little ice cream maker and make the most delicuos homemade peach ice cream, it was heaven and I haven't tasted anything that comes even close!
This stand is beyond cute!! What a great idea, I really hope if there is not one already in existence on the East Coast, one is in the works…love the idea. Talk about a great throwback to everyones favortie indulgence:)
I agree too!! I remember being so excited for the Good Humor truck's bell!! So funny that Tina said that because my father used to make amazing home made peach ice cream as well. Now we go up to the most incredible dairy farm in CT where they make their own from the milk of their own cows!!
Oh, Mint Choc. Chip for me! The ice cream man still drives through the neighborhood. It's funny, I may be 40 something… (shhhh)… but I still get excited when I hear the truck coming… it's like being 5 all over again! xo
Do you know "Dough Girl" – she is in CT.- maybe she would come with her cart to you?

My favorite ice cream flavor is "all of the above!" xx 🙂
Yummm….love ice cream any time of year. What a sweet idea. One of the shelter magazines had a feature on an ice cream shop this month as well….what a fun little business it would be (but far too dangerous for me!) Hope you had a great weekend.
Cute little cart! My favorite is mint chocolate chip gelato. I could eat good creamy gelato everyday of the week! I hope you had a great weekend!
One of the best things about summer is ice cream! That cart is too cute – what a great way to end an evening on the terrace…
xxoo
I totally need an outdoor buffet like that 1st picture! How fun with the lamps 🙂 I pretty much love it all. There are certain times that I do revert to the Rocky Road with the chocolate, nuts and marshmallows. That and mint choco chip were childhood favs. Don't get me started on sherberts…I love them all!! XO, Kelly
It is so hot in Nashville- ice cream is perfect right now– and our church has a ice cream making contest in June, which is always fun! I hope you are having a wonderful week! Take care, Caroline
*** HOW C*H*A*R*M*I*N*G this all is!!!
Annnnnnd, I am sooooo relieved to know that I'm not the ONLY one out here with a weakness (a BIG one!) CHOCOLATE CHIP MINT "kai-kai"… (that's what my sweet Grampa used to call it, & the memory of it all, and those days, brought a B*I*G smile to my face… and I THANK YOU!!!)…
*** A PERFECT POSTING!!! ***

I'm with Sue, "all of the above" is my favorite flavor. Although I have been craving the salted caramel from our local ice cream geniuses, Molly Moons.
This is the sweetest idea, and would be so much fun at a party for kids or for grow up kids! XO

I could literally eat ice all day! I am glad to hear you get some goodies at Vineyard Vines. I ordered a dress that was on sale this weekend…I hope it fits! xx
Oh my goodness, what a wonderful childhood memory! Our church events like that are precious memories also, but we never had an ice cream social … the one that sticks in my mind is a fall bazaar with all of the fabulously designed booths that we set up in a shopping center parking lot, selling caramel apples, cider, crafts and all things autumn. I've always been partial to chocolate or chocolate peanut butter ice creams, but a couple summers ago I discovered a fabulous flavor at a local ice cream shop here called Kilwins (don't know if it's national, but if it is you HAVE to try it). I asked them what their most popular flavor was and they said Toasted Coconut. Oh. My. Goodness. I haven't ordered anything else from there since, it's incredibly delicious! 😉 Hope you had a lovely long weekend, sweetie!
This is a great idea. I have fond memories of an ice cream parlor that was close to our house. They served 21 flavors and we thought it a very big deal. Chocolate chip was always my favorite and still is.
It's a great idea! Who doesn't love ice cream?
Wouldn't that cart full of choices be a fun addition to a party?! Make mine pralines and cream please!
xo Cathy
Ice cream is one of my guilty pleasures! We have a place in Richmond called Gelati Celesti and it is HEAVENLY! It's a mix between gelato and traditional ice cream! I would love to have an ice cream cart at a party in my yard!
Mint chocolate chip is my fav! My best memories are going with my grandfather to each get a cone- he'd be as excited as I was to get our mint choc chip fix!
I don't have the same memories (you apparently have a good one) as you have but i saw this editorial and I loved it!! My favorite ice cream is yoghurt:)
It's so hard to pick just one, but if pinned down, I would say Chocolate Chip or Strawberry for me!
There's nothing I don't love about ice cream in summertime! Nothing at all. Mmmmmmm!! That Sweet Lucie's cart is absolutely adorable and charming. I'm going to click over and swoon a little more 🙂
Oh you have me swooning, sweetie! Took me right back to childhood. Actually I still get excited when I hear the bells of the ice cream man ring 🙂 The cart is just adorable and I think I need some ice cream right this second. I love Strawberry, Vanilla or Chocolate Chip 🙂
Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! xoxo
I am craving for ice cream now. haha;)
