Our visit to Kansas is just humming along. We’ve spent lots of time outdoors, which led to some beautiful moments by Mother Nature yesterday.
There is something so majestic about the paper light hummingbird – I was thrilled to catch one in action.
My sons were like little Tom Sawyers, catching frogs, tossing the frisbee and causing a ruckus.
And, finally, the butterflies have been fluttering about. Now, I can’t wait for the fireflies!
What are your favorite, simple summer pleasures?

Definitely the dragonflies and fireflies and moments outdoors! Looks like you're having a wonderful time.

Beautiful pictures…..and reminders of the simple pleasures in life, something I have more of an appreciation for as I get older. The beauty of nature is always awe inspiring (however I prefer to admire frogs from afar…very very afar:)
Looks like a fun time for all by your photos! Those fireflies should be lighting up soon!

I want to paint that one of your son holding the frog!
How nice to enjoy nature wherever you roam. I do love hiking and finding little creatures.
Enjoy~

Looks like you are having a lovely time. Isn't it fun to find the "wild kingdom" in the backyard? I used to love to catch frogs when I was your son's age. Simple summer pleasures like being outside, watching the birds and butterflies, and causing a ruckus are some of the best parts of the season's freedom. Nothing fancy. Just fun!
Enjoy your visit,
Jeanne
I have a feeder right outside my kitchen window and the traffic of the hummer's is amazing to watch, they are so delicate looking. I have a small fountain on my porch and they take early morning baths on top of the bubbler, that is a site to behold, so precious. I saw my very first fireflies last year on a trip to North Carolina, I felt like a kid at Disneyland!! We don't have those in Calif. Love all of the above images, Kathysue
Oh how I love the orange flowers! And that butterfly! gorgeous!
Great post…
We walk out on our back patio just in time to see squirrels, bunnies, and chipmunks scurrying away. It's hard not to feel like Snow White.
We also love watching our dog become so confused by fireflies in the evenings. It's so cute.
Oh my goodness these pictures are absolutely gorgeous. Love your blog and I am your newest follower.

Sounds positively delightful! When I was in high school, we had some hummingbirds that would come right up to our picture windows to take the nectar from my mom's flowers and it truly was magically to watch them hovering there! Glad you're having a great time! xoxo
Congrats on catching that hummingbird! No easy feat…my son and I saw one last week, so cool when they buzz around backwards! As always, your photos are gorgie!!!
I love this – such a great reminder to take time and appreciate the little things. xx
That frog picture is incredible–fun times outside like these are what summer is all about!
Elizabeth,
How nice to be truly enjoying the great outdoors and lucky for you to capture some special moments! The bullfrog made me smile, as last Friday we were at the beach in Amagansett and we saw four bullfrogs just prior to walking up the sand path! My children are still talking about the frogs…it was a treat! Can't wait to hear all about your trip next week at our get together!
The frog is my favorite picture! Isn't summer wonderful? I love what great times you have already had and shared in these adorable pics!! XO, Kelly
Beautiful photo's! Amazing you snapped the hummingbird. Or the frog in your sons hand or the butterfly;) My favorite summer pleasures are the smell of early mornings and late eve's, butterflies and roses.
P.s. To thank you for the delicious candle gift the candle and you are subject of my post today:)
What amazing pictures. I loved these!!
Enjoy Summer my friend. It sounds just heaven the way you live it!

Having my seedlings bloom into flowers and to have gained the patients to start from a seedling.
How's Molly?
I love the summer fireflies!! My boys were always bringing home frogs and turtles etc. In fact at one point we had a HUGE African desert tortoise as a pet!!
wow – great moments with mother nature and all of her friends. the fireflies are my favorite though. they are so magical.
How very beautiful these photos are! My simple summer pleasures are waking up early in the morning on a sunny day, flowers in the garden, al fresco dinners. :)Ada
