Fellow blogging friend, Lynn Byrne of Decor Arts Now,invited me to share one of the rooms I first remembered, as according to Carlton Varney…this can help us identify our personal style.
I was surprised that my grandfather’s office is what popped into my head. He was known more for giving math quizzes than bear hugs but he exuded a solidness that I look back upon now with great respect. If you wanted to talk with him or “get quizzed”, it was usually in his office. I remember worn leather, a large desk, loads of books and light streaming in through the windows and french doors.
The above snapshot from Lonny circa 2010 captured the essence of that room for me.
So, I found it kind of ironic that the most inviting room in my home exudes that same kind of feel. Loads of coffee table books, espresso colored walls, family photographs in the bookshelves and light streaming in through windows and a set of french doors.
I guess it’s true what they say….what goes around, eventually comes around? At least according to Justin Timberlake.
Love your room… it's gorgeous, warm and comfy. This is interesting I will have to see what comes to mind for me. xo
So fun to hear of your first design memory…now it has me thinking about mine. Love the glimpse of your living room! Looks so cozy and inviting!
What a beautiful memory! I love it and he reminds me a lot of my dad, always quizzing! Your room is picture perfect, just love everything about it, from the colors, the beautifullly placed accessories to the very chic vibe..beautiful!
Elizabeth,
Thanks so much for such a prominent link!
Yours is truly a sweet memory.
I love your always positive attitude!
Xo, Lynn
Loved your piece in Lynn's post yesterday and the fact that your grandfather was more about quizzes than bear hugs… mine was pretty much the same!
xxoo
I love your cozy, warm room and the memories it brings of your grandfather. It's funny, I've always suspected that my grandmother was somewhere in my design DNA… I remember white sofas, crystal chandeliers, a Berger chair. Sure enough, these elements pop up in my living room, too — including the recovered white sofa that once belonged to her! Thanks for the nice memories! XO
Love the thought of looking back on the room you remembered first…and what a wonderful feeling/memory to re-create! Take care, Caroline
What a clever exercise! I love your memory of your grandfather's office.. it sounds like a book! Also loved your addition to DAN's post also…
XOXO

Amazing! All of it…and now just want to see more of your house, that room, that art!
Seems we had similar grandfathers. Love the colors and feel of your room!
xo Cathy
That's such a sweet story! Love how your room resembles your grandfathers library. What goes around most definitely comes around. I'm a firm believer in that 🙂 xoxo
Love both those rooms. So nice you found one that reminds you of your grandfather's. Hope your little boy is feeling better.
What a lovely memory. You have created such a warm, inviting and beautiful room.
Best…Victoria
Great, serene color choices and yummy fabrics! I used to hear, when mine were small, that kids are a product of their environment. Guess that applies to interior design as well. I know I inherited some of my parents design sensibilities. It stands to reason, I suppose.
What a great sneak peek into your home; love the feeling of it; I could see cozying up on the sofa and thumbing through the coffee table books. Ideal!
