Simon Doonan, Barneys Creative Director at Genes at Co-Op
This past weekend, I was at Barneys getting some alterations done. Having skipped breakfast (I know, I know) and lunch and faced with an hour drive home, I was S.T.A.R.V.I.N.G! I was just about to head to Fred’s, the renown in-house restaurant, when I saw a notice that Genes at Co-Op had just opened. Curious, I headed to the 8th floor, where I found this intimate, techie eatery.
Instead of a place mat, each space has a touch screen, much like an oversized Ipad. You can see the menu, ask for a server, request your check, read an online article or shop, all while you have a bite to eat. My asian chicken salad and Harney’s special blend iced tea were delicious and just the sustenance I needed to make it home.
So, for anyone who will be visiting or shopping in the city over the holidays, consider popping in to enjoy this little tech cafe oasis. They serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks!
Bon appetit and happy holiday shopping!
What a fun Saturday you had. I would love to have a few hours at Barney's and then have a bite there. Looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

Wow this is so futuristic! I must get over there and check it after the holiday craziness and my move is over…my boys would get a kick out of that. Looks pretty neat and sounds like a fun day you had.
This is so high tech. Have to run in and check it out.
Wow what a cool concept…leave it to Barneys! I bet it really felt like you were in the future! xx
How fabulous! Love the concept. xx
I want to know what you were getting altered!? 🙂
Fun! They have this is some airports now too. Did you start some holiday shopping there too?!

No holiday shopping yet…but I was getting a beautiful cream halter style gown altered for a holiday black tie. I love the color, as it is a change from my typical black and will work for another black ties event in April!
This was one of the purchases I made with hubbie on our anniversary trip into NYC!

Sounds like fun! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
What a fun concept! Probably easier to get your check 😉
Love this!
OK, this is beyond brilliant! And don't you dare go back to Barneys sans moi! AND…what is this dress for? Your adoring fans want to know!
Oh my gosh, how cool is that? Touch screens! That's one of those fun things that we're just amazed at … and amazed that we haven't seen this before! xoxo

This sounds amazing…love the idea of the ipad type menus!!
Totally cool!! I've had several lunches at Fred's lately – didn't even realize Gene's existed – must be named after our friend Gene Pressman, former co-CEO and creative director.
I would love to go here. I love the touch screen menu, it's genius and I'm surprised more people haven't thought of it yet. Very cool!! xo
I'll be in NYC in two weeks and will definitely stop. It looks like a lot of fun.
So fascinating! This is going on my "to visit" list. I was supposed to take my niece to tea at BG but the traffic made us miss our reservations. Boo. We "settled for" the Carlyle, so all's well that ends well … but I am starting a running list of places to take her!
how amazing. what will they come up with next? hope you had a wonderful turkey day. xx
