While looking for light fixtures for our renovation, I got distracted by this beautiful piece of art. It felt familiar, but it wasn’t until I was home that I realized where I’d seen it before.
There it is on the cover of the September issue of House Beautiful 2011.
This sent me on a mission to learn more, which led me to Natural Curiosities by Christopher Wilcox. Hardly a design secret, they’ve been written up and highlighted in a number of places. Maybe I’m just slow to notice.
Produced completely in the U.S., the team behind Natural Curiosities is blending nature and art. If you haven’t perused their work yet, I recommend a trip to their website where you’ll find an immense and varied collection.
Actual sand dollars mounted on linen. How gorgeous in a beach house.
Planisphere – I love this for my son’s room.
“Flight” – originally from a 1904 Japanese book that implies the duality between the delicate and the unrestrained. Hand gold leaf has been applied. I love the light feeling this one evokes.
Now that I’m officially obsessed with this company, seeing their latest work is reason enough to attend the NYIGF later this month.
Will you be there? I haven’t decided yet. But, now I’m very curious about what all I might see!

You know I'll be at the show! Have loved Natural Curiosities ever since they launched their collections… check out their Hubbard botanicals on my post today! (Great minds think alike!)
xxoo
Natural Curiosities is one of my favorites. I really love thinking ahead and would love to go to the NYIGF….I must admit you have peaked my curiosity!
That first room looks just like you, pretty, chic and so full of artful grace.

I wonder how they mounted all those sand dollars without breaking them. I have a large bowl full of them and this is a great idea for our bathroom. Believe it or not I have two empty frames mounted above the loo and now know what I'm going to do. Great eye and post!
boy do you have a good eye, and a good memory!!! Wishing you a very Happy New Year and lets have lunch! xxBarbara
These are so neat! The starscape and butterflies are my favorites. And what an eye you have – remembering a cover from 4 months ago! I am impressed!
Elizabeth, I'm smiling
BIG time, as I saved
this picture as a muse
for my daughter to
create something similar
for my master bedroom,
only with a blue or sea
green background instead
of the pink : ) I think I
will "commission" her to
do it this summer. Loved
hearing more about Natural
Curiosities ~ I'm quite drawn
to all of these pieces!
Happy New Year, sweet
friend!
xx Suzanne
Wish I could get out for the show. Sadly the only travel on my calendar this month is to Dallas for a Bridal Expo! Love that your natural curiosity compelled you to learn more about this lovely work. We're looking for art for our home, and I think I could fall in love with any of the pieces from of this talented team.
Have a lovely day, Elizabeth! XO
Love their work! The pink caught my eye immediately.
Have a nice day, Elizabeth.

I think I first saw their work on One Kings Lane and was immediately smitten like you!
If I lived on the East Coast I would drag you there!!!!
Go for all of us, please. You always do the best posts on your field trips.
XO
I saw it too and loved it!!
I just saw them at High Point Market in October. It is even more beautiful in person. Wish I could make it to NYIGF, but not going to happen this year!
Wow I'm so impressed that you remembered that! It is stunning. And I really love Flight. Thanks for introducing me to them 🙂 xoxo
Having ordered from them for customers and recently seeing their work in a local designer's home I am obsessed as well. My husband and I were looking through their site over the weekend with thoughts of our living room. BTW, I didn't have time to weigh in yesterday….LOVED the rectangular pattern….cannot wait to see what you decide.
Hey! Let's go together! (for reals)
Elizabeth,
I always learn so much from you.
Happy New Year!
Carole xo
Elizabeth, Thank you for teaching me about Natural Curiosities. Their style of art is breathtaking and I am excited to learn more about them. I love that they are produced in the U.S. Have a great day!
I have a friend that bought the first piece of art at an auction and it looks amazing in her home. The sand dollars are fabulous…so wish I could be there!!
Mmmm…wonderful. Thank you for the introduction.
yum. Natural Curiosities has so many great things. I think the first piece featured on HB is my fave! donna
Come visit us in Booth 9416 in Javits North, Handmade Designer Maker. We, too, have many works inspired by nature's flora and fauna. You might enjoy this work, In the Cattails BOX PRINT reproduction. Cheers!
ohhh, I love this. I didn't know of them either, so thank you!

Thank you for the Natural Curiousities heads up. Will check out for our home renovation: http://gardenglamour-duchessdesigns.blogspot.com/
And don't miss the Gift Show. I showed at them for years and the NY Javits Center show is THE must do mecca and benchmark for all other gift shows. Cheers
My eye went straight to that artwork when I first saw the cover of HB. What stunning work, and you're so smart to investigate a little farther!!!
I have only been to the gift fair once and I enjoyed it. Although I have heard mixed reviews lately, I am planning a return visit. ADORE Natural Curiousities.
Love the bird art! So pretty!
