After great (internal) debate, I’ve decided to keep the exterior of our home classic. And, what’s more classic than black and white?
I’ve taken quite a shine to my glossy front door, thanks to Fine Paints of Europe. You literally can see your reflection in it.
Here’s a peek at our new side entry. It definitely needs some finishing touches, but I’m trying to hold off until everything else is complete. A bench, some landscaping and a pot of flowers will turn this into an inviting entry at last!
Shutters will go up on the front of the house this week. I think it’s going to be like going from bare lashes to extensions….dramatic!
My Genie House lanterns that have been on the house got a new coat of paint and they look brand new. I love that this brand has a Southern feel to it and is made in the USA.
Black doors are my favorite. My front door is black. I just wish it were glossy. Your home is gorgeous!! I think black will be awesome. xo
Stunning! I keep meaning to do a drive by, will make sure to in the coming weeks. I too love a white house with black shutters… and your house as you know 🙂
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!! I love the way its come out and as you black on white is so classic. I also love a black door, my favorite. Our old house had a super glossy black door and at first everyone was going nuts because I was painting a mahogany door black, but when they saw the finished product, they couldnt' help but love it…and agree, the glossier the better!
Seems like you have made excellent progress, Elizabeth, cannot wait to see more!
Everything is so beautiful, Elizabeth! I love the front door, and your lanterns do look brand new.
I know that you are so excited to be done. Well it is well worth the wait.
Happy Tuesday.

Gorgeous home! I just love high gloss black doors… they are bold and it takes some a bit to accept – but what a STATEMENT. You exterior is marvelous… I can only image how excited you are. Thanks for sharing Have a wonderful day. Jalon
Looking good! We painted our door a bright blue last fall but it needs another spring coat. Love the shiny black!
Elizabeth,
Just look at that lbd, little black door! I love that you went with your gut and went classic. I love it and I bet during the holidays you will have such a blast adding your special touches!
I do believe a new sketch is in order with your lovely addition! How happy you must be to spread out….

FABULOUS!! It's already looking so beautiful, I can only imagine how great it will be once you finish styling it all 🙂
I love black and white exteriors. Very classic. I can't wait to see it with the shutters up. And, how can you not adore that knocker? Lovely.
I am a big believer in painting the brick to give a clean line look up to the batten board. The black gloss door is just the right amount of drama, and together is provides a classic elegance.
Elizabeth your home is beautiful! I'm going to have to try that high gloss paint too since two of our outside doors need repainting. Been working on spring clean up now for almost six weeks, we're almost done!

Elizabeth, it's coming along beautifully! You just can't go wrong with classic, and I love the statement that black and white makes. And the glossiness of your front door is gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing pictures when the shutters go up – lash extensions are the perfect description.
PS – I've been jumping out of bed at the usual time, no sleeping in here (yet!)
I noticed a little silver box by your new side entrance. Do you get milk delivery?
Hugs!

Huge fan of lacquered doors…love the black! Looking good my friend! Can't wait to see the final reveal. xoxo
It is a beautiful classic house – I love how your tulips are still hanging in! I love your lanterns – they work perfectly.
Simply Beautiful!

perfect, classic & charming……oh elizabeth!
i did a post while in england last year on the doors and shutters there. all were of the high gloss and TFPOE paint is the only way to achieve that in this country, you did it so well!
i stylize exteriors and yours is a perfect example of all that is right, even the scale of your lanterns are sheer perfection.

Craftyncer…why, yes, I get weekly milk delivery from Starlight Dairy. We just recycle the glass bottles each week. I know my milkman will appreciate being able to make my delivery, under cover, no matter the weather now!
And, thanks to everyone for your feedback. It means the world to me. I feel like you've been there each step of the way.
More reveals to come!

Oh, it is looking stunning. I love the roof and the shingles. So classic. Cannot go wrong with High Gloss Black. We did it on the inside of our door and the stair rail when we remodeled and we love it. Cannot wait to see the inside and the final reveal. I loved your home's before so the after is sure to be stunning.

I absolutely love the charm of your house. It's beautiful and inviting. Mine looks very similar, but has cream paint with green shutters and door. Those colors were here when we purchased or I probably would have done exactly what you're doing. Your lanterns are just perfect, and your side entrance looks like it is original. So well done!
Elizabeth!!! It is all so beautiful. I adore your black front door paint. Ours must be redone this year and we always talk about how they get those doors so shiny in France!! Mystery solved… thank you!

your new side door looks GREAT. 🙂 and so does the black. homey & chic.
spring clearning at our house… ermm… we still are living out of suitcases. 🙂 easy for cleaning… but i mostly feel like a snail toting my home around behind me every day.
Absolute perfection!
I am curious Elizabeth, if you had black trim on your house, including shutters, would you paint them glossy as well?
I have a White house with Black trim that needs painting and am wondering about the finishes of the white and the black. Is it satin on the white and glossy for the trim?
All I know is you've got it down!!!!!
Your home is truly stunning!
