New, front side door entrance. No more getting wet while trying to unlock the front door!
This is our existing family room. Just a variation on a theme. With the ceiling raised and a new fireplace, we were able to rebuild the same general set up we had before, just better. And, yes, that big gaping space above the fireplace is for the flat screen tv. Yes, a painting would be prettier, but that was a battle I just didn’t win.
This may just be the part of the project I’m most excited about. A real mud room. Cubbies for everyone with electrical outlets inside, so everyone can charge their Ipods, phones, etc…out of sight.
Staircase going up to the new playroom.
For the playroom, we decided to do bead board all the way around. It adds a little bit of depth and will “boy proof” those walls!
So, as we begin a new week, I wish you luck in finishing your projects. My contractor returns from vacation tomorrow and my list is long!
Your renovation is turning out gorgeous! I love bead board. Can't wait to see the finished results. I wish I had an overhang at my entry for guests. Hope your Easter was a lovely one, Elizabeth!! xo
Looking GREAT!! I think the mud room is always every mother's favorite!! And I always seem to lose the battle about the flat screen as well – those boys & their enormous toys!!
I know your excitment about finishing a big project it's all the little details that drive me batty. Your home is coming along so well and great idea in your mudroom for recharging everything.
Happy Monday!

I need to start some projects before even getting to the point of feeling like I can see the finish line – am in kitchen / bathroom paralysis mode right now! Can't wait to see this all come together and love the use of bead board to boy-proof a wall.
xxoo
elizabeth, how very lovely! know what my favorite is? your exterior lighting, far too often undersized seems to be the safe choice, yours are perfect! enjoy the finish line

It is all fabulous. Love the beadboard in the playroom, and the mud room is going to be your new best friend – perfect to hide all the "stuff". There is nothing that adds charm quite like shingles to me, and your beautiful home is no exception. Are your lanterns out front new…stunning!!
Everything looks so wonderful Elizabeth!!
I am thrilled for you!
You have great taste and created an incredible new space that will serve you beautifully for many many years.
Love all the great details.

Hi Elizabeth! How very exciting having all of these beautiful changes made to your home! (exciting and frustrating at times, I'm sure!) We sold our home a year ago to be closer to hubby's new job and have been leasing a condo since last August but we are now in the process of purchasing a historic home on the water! So, lots of projects ahead for us too! Can't wait to see the big reveal of your renovation inside and out when it's complete! xoxo

I can understand
your craving for color,
but it all looks like a
wonderful, clean, blank
page from my standpoint,
which is such a fresh way
to embrace the new season!
Good luck with all of the
final touches. It all looks
really special!

Wow you can really tell that this house is going to sparkle! So tasteful, love those outdoor sconces especially.
I love that mudroom…it's a dream. Thanks for sharing all of your updates it's so inspiring!

What great progress! It looks like it is just poised to all come together now. It looks terrific! And living in a smaller, older home (100 next year!) I have serious mudroom envy!
Wow! everything is looking fantastic. Who makes those lights by the front door, I might have missed that post. I'm inspired to do a mud room post, but first I'll start a board. j
Best,
Liz
Congratulations on your renovation success. We're going through a big one so I share your pain – and exultation. Love your white. But I must say, I am not ever on board with the tv over the fireplace. I just don't get it… it's not a difference in the gender, in my way of thinking about where to place the big screen. I have a feeling some designer somewhere in some far off place plopped it there and forever after, like some bad urban legend, this practice continues (like volcanos of mulch around the trees!) I like to think of fireplaces for romance and reading and dining… Too much visual stimulation for me having the screen over the fire. Let's start a new trend! Cheers, darlings.
Yay for "boy proofing" … and what a fantastic mudroom! Love, love, love the electrical outlets in the lockers!!!!
There should be a channel on the TV where you can choose a painting to display when your TV is not being watched!
