About a year ago, I heard about a small company that was working with local farmers to bring their food directly to homes. They circumvent intermediary transportation, overhead expenses and lag time from farm to table.
Then, about a month ago, a friend mentioned that she had started using this service…so I thought, I must give this a try. You get what’s in season. Right now. And, it’s like a surprise. You never know what you might get.
Yesterday, I received my first delivery from Mike’s Organic Delivery and I was blown away by the freshness and quality of the foods. Mike brought everything in, told me how I could cook it (some things I had never seen before, like garlic snapes) and gave me a recipe for Strawberry Basil martinis. Yes, fresh strawberries and basil were part of my delivery. And, so were eggs laid just 2 days ago. That’s what we’re having for breakfast today!
I couldn’t resist making a little crostini with the fresh goat cheese above, basil, honey and sea salt for last night’s dinner. Delish!
Mike’s Organic Delivery is a great resource for anyone in the Westchester/Fairfield area looking to eat like a locavore. But, everyone has food sources close to home. Not only is it healthy and tasty but a great way to keep these small enterprises in business!
Bon Appetit!
You've got me intriqued. I just checked out Mike's website and I'm even more impressed and interested. Thanks for bringing this to me.
What a neat idea!! I love it, and the idea that its all so fresh…..how could you not be inspired! As you know crostinis are very much on my mind pretty much all the time lately…I could so eat this way every day every meal! Looks fabulous….happy cooking.
What a great idea. And I think you need to share that strawberry basil recipe 🙂
Elizabeth,
Having been born and bred on local delights, I of course love supporting small businesses devoted to eating local and fresh!
Thanks for sharing!

Will they deliver to Boston??? What a great service! xx
I am so glad that you posted on this subject. I have been a member of a similar group for 15 years and it is such a treat. Last night, as we were eating our organic and locally raised beef, snap peas and salad; I felt a rush of joy knowing that there is so much more to come this season! It makes you more aware of struggles of our farmers and the natural rhythm of the land. Loved the pics too. Do more on this with other deliveries!
Love this idea! I need to sign up:)
For so many reasons we all need to get back to basics – support our local growers and eat fresh produce.
I love the idea that they bring the produce and idea's on ways to prepare it – that is so smart!
I love eating local. There's such a difference, isn't there? And I would love to try your delicious sounding and looking crostini! Mind if I stop by? 🙂 xoxo
This is perfect! Definitely going to try it. Thanks for telling us about this company!
This is fantastic! I wish they had something like that here in Los Angeles. I'm definitely going to look into it!
Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Oh, my… that crostini looks divine! Wish I was eating some right now!
This is wonderful. I know we have this kind of service in the Santa Monica area, as well. I've never used it because I am fortunate to have several great farmer's markets right around me, but my friend uses this kind of service and loves it! Thank you for sharing about this, Elizabeth.
I only wish there were a service like this on the suburban outskirts of Boston.
Love your blog and have begun following!

Wow, this is such a great idea! Works amazingly for the farmers and the consumers too, right?
I'm quite jealous actually, don't think there's anything like that in Hong Kong…
That's so great! We had a similar service but just for produce and it never really took off here. I wish there was something more like yours here.
