Subtle shifts are beginning to take place. Children are back in school. Days are getting cooler and a little shorter. Jackets and boots have replaced sunscreen and flip flops.
And with that comes some decorative shifts. Pumpkins, gourds, twigs and fall leaves are all beckoning to be incorporated onto your mantle, in your urns and on your tabletop.
For seasonal ideas, I love turning to Mary Carol Garrity.
Author, shop owner and lifestyle expert from Atchison, Kansas….Mary Carol is an expert at using what you have and doing it affordably. Although I have all of her books, it was a visit many years ago with my mother-in-law to Nell Hill’s, Garrity’s original store, that got me hooked! Among the items I brought home with me was a painting that still hangs in my living room (4 houses later!).
Lanterns filled with autumn’s bounty and metal orbs decorated atop garden urns are 2 of the ways Mary Carol suggests bringing autumn home! Because they aren’t planted, these type or arrangements are fairly full proof….a little imperfection actually makes them more appealing.
Whether adding one of these elements to your garden or decorating the entrance to your home, you are sure to make your fall guests feel welcome!
Such stunning displays and I love the colors. My favorite aspect of fall is no more mowing….lol. Hey when you mow acres you look forward to it ending for a season.

Elizabeth,
Fall always feels like a fresh start to me, it is hard to say good bye to Summer but I love welcoming fall, the entrance of cooler mornings and being challenged to embrace Autumn.
Your decor is lovely~ Was that a dinner party outside?

beautiful! you *almost* make me ready to move on to fall!
Elizabeth, Thanks for introducing me to Mary Carol Garrity! I love her ideas for a pretty fall. We've gotten lucky with a forecast of pure summer this week – blue skies and temperatures in the 80s, so I'll be in warm weather mode for a little while longer. But I'll be looking for a little fall inspiration soon enough and love what I'm seeing here.
Happy Monday! XOXO
Such gorgeous ideas for fall decorating! I will definitely have to check our Mary Carol Garrity! She has some wonderful ideas! I am truly looking forward to fall! I love it!
Love this Elizabeth..yes last night I actually needed a SWEATER!! But then I hear we are going right up to the 80's again on Wed…go figure! I am with you on the fall decor, its such a beautiful season to bring some of the outdoors in, even if just putting pretty leaves or acorns in a bowl or cutting pretty fall branches for a vase…mums and ghourds are always a must buy for me, beautiful post and I too am a fan of Nell Hills, she has a great eye and so many fantastic ideas!
Enjoy the beautiful fall like day.

I'm so hating to let go of summer, but these images have me excited for those crisp days of fall!
Great ideas for my table and so ready for the cooler weather here in Texas. Hello Fall!
Hi Elizabeth…This post puts me in the mood for fall! Now that we are home from Mexico, I can start thinking about fall.
Have a lovely day! xoxo
Looking very beautiful! How about I bring my Barbour jacket, and we have lunch on your gorgeous terrace? Enjoy your autumnal vignettes while lunching, and then go antiquing in Stamford 🙂
Cheers,
Loi
Sweaters, boots and Sunday soup dinners! Love the idea of the metal orb on an urn – makes the look feel rustic yet modern. Hope you haven't put your flip flops away just yet… Tomorrow's a scorcher!
