This time of year, I begin to get excited about preparing for the holidays. And, then. I realize how much there is to prepare. So, I am making a conscious effort to slow down, not over-schedule and make time each day this month to focus on gratitude.
I am going to also try a quiet experiment. Each morning, I am going to let each of my boys know 1 thing about them that I am grateful for. It might be that they cleared the table without my asking. Or, for always making me laugh. Or doing something thoughtful for their brother. But, I’m not going to tell them what I’m doing. I want to try and instill in them an attitude of gratitude. And, at the same time, I want to walk the talk.
So, who can you make a focused effort of gratitude towards? It can be your secret. But, I’d love to know if you see some results.
Oh, and before I forget. I’m grateful for you. Thank you for reading, commenting or mentioning a post when I see you. It’s amazing what kind of affect you can have on someone…and you may not even know it.

I love it! I usually concentrate in November on what I am thankful for, but what a lovely idea to tell the kiddos!
Elizabeth, I am grateful for you,too. Your interesting and lovely posts always give me inspiration and something to think about. I was having the same feelings about the month of November and started a similar practice for the month – every day I am writing down something that I am grateful for that day – it can be the smallest thing, even something frivolous. But taking time to count blessings in this way, I hope will make me more connected and aware. Yesterday I shared some of my early "thankful list" with Mr. H while we were out on a walk – it was so nice to be able to talk about all that is good in our lives!

I love that you have launched a covert gratitude operation in your household. Good for you for modelling this essential attribute. I just heard this quote this morning: "In order to have a joy filled life you need to be an expert at gratitude." How true!
