When I was young, my mom would bake many different kinds of cookies for our Christmas Open House. Pecan sandies, pressed cookies decorated with colored sugar and gingerbread boys with red hots and icing.
One of my activities with my boys after they get out of school for the holiday will be decorating sugar cookies. I doubt they’ll look as good as these, but half the fun is just being in the kitchen together with those sweet and buttery smells wafting all around.
So, whether you have a cookie swap to attend, need to drop off something for the neighbors or just want some ideas of what you can do at home, here are some of my favorites!
Do you have a favorite family recipe? I’d love to know!
Here’s to a sweet week!

Went to a cookie swap a few years ago it was such fun to see everyone's creation! I love the idea…and hey any excuse to eat a cookie works for me:) That last cookie is one of my all time favorites. Good luck getting all everything done this week Elizabeth and happy baking!
Elizabeth these decorated cookies are wonderful. Russian Tea cookies are a favorite of my families, as well as Lemon Bars!

Scalamandre Giveaway!
Your post makes me want to rush into the kitchen and start baking (although mine would NOT look like these photos). Our family favorites are peanut butter cookies with kisses on top and fudge that is so good we call it "crack fudge".
Have a lovely day, Elizabeth! xoxo
These cookies look too good to eat! I love that you will be baking with your boys – I have great memories of painting sugar cookies with my mom when I was little. She would make gingerbread boys, too, and hang them from the tree. (I am wondering how she kept the dogs from eating them!) I'll be baking this week and inviting friends to come by. There will be a pot of soup on the stove and cookies to decorate, and I will be remembering happy days with my mom.
Have a sweet time with your boys! XO
This makes me want to make a gingerbread house, Elizabeth! Always enjoy our cookie swap.
Happy Monday.

Elizabeth,
I made some cookies yesterday and scones today.
Love baking and all the memories of spending time with my own Mom too in the kitchen.

Some of my first Christmas memories are baking with my Mom at Christmas. This is a nice post.
I use to be invited to a cookie swap but haven't been in a couple of years. My children always loved when I came home with the various cookies. I am in the mood to bake! We might make cookies this weekend because of you! Merry Christmas Elizabeth!
Elizabeth, I love all your cookie inspiration and can tell I'm going to need to get my cooking baking on very very soon!

Instead of gingerbread men this year, we are making gingerbread gnomes. After all, there's no place like gnome for the holidays!
