Are you happy? What makes you happy? I’ve found it’s the little things. A favorite mug for my morning coffee. Laughing with my sons. Working at my desk, with my dog in my lap. Sunshine. Flowers. Finishing a workout.
But, I’ve also found I feel happy when, I do something for someone else. Make pancakes for my boys – one with chocolate chips & blueberries, the other plain. Select the perfect gift for someone’s birthday. Give a compliment. Make someone laugh. Say a kind word. Help where I can.
Research shows that happiness is important to life. Positive emotions have positive effects on health, longevity, personal relationships, creativity and work satisfaction. Happy people tend to be more successful, live longer, have better connections with family and friends, miss less work and donate more.
So, with that in mind, I invite you to join me tomorrow in celebrating the International Day of Happiness, designated by the United Nations.
Do your part. Create an act of happiness. Hold a door, let someone go ahead of you, put money in an expired meter, call an old friend. You can post it to actsofhappiness.org & share it with your friends by using #happyacts. For each act posted, Live Happy will donate $1 (up to $25k) to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
To keep that positivity going, Live Happy magazine is giving 2 of you a year’s subscription to its new, uplifting magazine. Leave a comment telling me one thing that makes you happy and you’ll be eligible! And, be sure to leave your email so I can be in touch! Open until midnight on 3/23.
