Last night, we had dinner with friends. One of those perfect nights, where you instantly felt transported and honestly didn’t want to leave. We ate outside, bugs at bay, and talked about places we had been and places we wanted to go. Summer has begun.
My task was to bring dessert….so I gravitated toward my favorite summer fruit…strawberries. They are especially great right now. Juicy and ripe and ready for you to bite into. But, blended in a few other ways, they can be an even bigger treat. Trifle. Crumb cake. Lemonade.
I’ll take any and all. My birthday is later this month and my mom always made me a strawberry pie instead of a birthday cake. I preferred it and it became tradition. I love thinking that she was kind of ahead of her time….baking what was “in season”. Little did I know that we would all eventually catch up and “farm to table” would be a way of life.
So, when you’re at the store this week, grab a pint of strawberries. Smush them. Blend them. Or eat them whole. But, don’t miss this juicy little treat. It’s summer, after all.

Yum is it wrong to be craving a really decadent dessert right now at not even 8am:) Though I am allergic to strawberries and do not eat them I serve them and make many desserts with them and you are right this is the time to indulge…I LOVE this time of year when there is such a plethora of fresh fruits and vegetables..yum!

Summer wouldn't be summer without strawberries! Fresh berries are one of my favorite things about the season. Your trifle looks so pretty and delicious – I'm going to have to whip one up before strawberry season is over. Love your mother's tradition of baking you a birthday pie.

Hi Elizabeth, I always put a pint or two of berries in my shopping basket at this time of year. Warm, sweet, right off the vine is the best! We have a local spot to pick your own if you'd like, and you are right. There are endless ways to enjoy the bounty of the season!! Happy Monday!
