Spring has Sprung

Spring has sprung…and not a moment too soon!! I have long time friends arriving this week for a visit and I want everything to look its best. Inside and out! But, first impressions start at the curb, so I am particularly excited about how our Spring pots have turned out.

For years, I’ve worked with Cindy Mills of Gardens. She and her team of trained gardeners have helped me lovingly care for our landscaping so that it compliments our house to its fullest potential. 

Pots are essential for creating color and drama when Mother Nature hasn’t provided it. My tulips won’t bloom for a few more weeks and my pear trees are on the verge of exploding….but not yet. 

So, we crafted a plan that would work on it’s on, provide a nice backdrop for the tulips and then stand alone once they have wilted.

Yellow forsythias, pansies and ivy were the plan. Cindy thought the red lacquered wreath we used for holiday looked so great that I should consider a Spring/Summer color. We settled on Key Lime from the Magnolia Wreath Company and I love it!
Another element that was new this year, was incorporating the metal orbs that my mother-in-law had sent me. I first broke them out for holiday and loved the structure they provided. Post-holiday, when I didn’t have any greens, I put the lanterns inside and loved that effect. With the ivy wound around, they feel very organic and storybook.
These smaller orbs are on the back patio, flanking our back door. Super simple, but impactful, I think.
Each season gives us an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start anew. Spring really made us wait this year, but I think it was worth it!

  2. Storybook is absolutely the right word to describe the look you have created. I love all your plantings and your guests are sure to feel welcomed by the pretty forsythia greeting them. My front door is black lacquer also and I am about to jump over to the wreath company and order a spring green one for myself!

  3. you have the prettiest front and back door plantings yet, by the time the wet and the wind have gone I want some COLOR, a few tulips thrown in there would stop my heart.

  4. Your home is so beautiful all dressed up for Spring!! I am holding out for Mother's Day to put out my flowers but wish I had a pop of brightness now – what a smart idea to use forsythia!
