Arriving home after being away a week, I always head out to see what’s grown or changed in the garden. I was delighted to see the hydrangea trees starting to turn pink. Just like a growing child, you don’t always appreciate the change unless you have some distance from it.
It’s been a rainy, muggy summer in Rye, so I’m really looking forward to early Fall in the garden. I love spending time outdoors, so I’m hoping to savor another 6-8 weeks or so before we begin to think about putting the garden to bed for the winter.
The tulips will be planted. The fountain will be taken apart. Pumpkins will appear. A new season is on the horizon, so here’s a last peek at summer before it’s gone.
Wishing you a relaxing and wonderful final week of August and “summer” before we turn the calendar page to September and all that brings!
It looks amazing! I am wondering if your hydrangea trees overwinter in those pots? Also, what about the ferns in urns and the gorgeous mandevilla vines? Do you overwinter in a greenhouse, or just start over next year? I’m trying to decide what to do with my mandevilla for the winter–just let it go and try to bring it inside. Thanks.
Hi Karen,
The hydrangea trees DO overwinter in the pots. Kind of amazing…but they do fine. The mandevilla and ferns have to start fresh each summer. But, the ferns last until Nov…so they really last me through 2 seasons. Good luck!
ELIZABETH, YOUR GARDEN IS STUNNING! I HAVE RECENTLY TAKEN TO GARDENING NOW THAT MY KIDS ARE GETTING OLDER. YOUR GARDEN IS SUCH AN INSPIRATION! WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR ARBOR?
Thank you, Sarah! Mid-Hudson Fence Company made my arbor.
