Italian Style – Giambattista Valli

After spending time in both Florence and Rome this summer, I came away with a renewed appreciation and adoration for all things Italian! So, on this Columbus Day, I’d like to pay homage to an Italian who has forged his own path in fashion, Giambattista Valli.

Do you recall a certain fabulous dress he designed for the new Mrs. Clooney?

Well, his divine designs were sashaying at the Duke Mansion in Charlotte, at the invitation of Capitol, a month before his dress debuted on Amal in Venice. That doesn’t surprise me as Laura Vinroot Poole and the ladies of Capitol are ALWAYS ahead of the fashion curve.

Italian design + Southern hospitality = one amazing fashion show. Enjoy!

Like a box of macaroons, these dresses are pretty and fluffy but not too sweet. What I would give to have a cinderella moment in one of these!

Here’s to Italian design and an extra vacation day!

Best Kept Secret: Claire Florence

I get an email from my dear friend in Washington, D.C. about this amazing line that everyone is talking about. So, of course, I had to check it out.
Turns out, it is the just-launched website and eponymous label for long time fashion darling, Claire Florence. I just didn’t know her name. Until now.
Claire was something of a teenage fashion-design whiz, who then was brought on to consult with firms such as Tom Ford and Calvin Klein. After that, she opened a chic atelier in Nolita (North of Little Italy) in New York City and was a fashion favorite of celebrities, such as, Minnie Driver and Julia Roberts.
Fast forward. Claire moves to D.C. Starts a family. Decides to launch her own website and viola….Claire Florence is born. Sold only in private shows or online, she’s still something of a well kept secret. But, I’ve decided you need to know about her and her cashmere + bits formula.

There’s the ever versatile travel wrap/evening wrap.

 Resort wear.

And, my favorite. These amazing cuffs made of all kinds of chic bits.

They even have a program where they’ll ship you a selection and you just send back what you don’t want to keep.

Can I keep a secret? You bet. But this one is definitely worth sharing!

NY Fashion Week – Lela Rose

Most of us may be focused on Sochi, but there is a lot happening here in New York. Fashion Week is under way and designers, bloggers, retailers and photographers are convening at Lincoln Center and throughout the city.
One of my all time favorite designers and fellow Dallasite, Lela Rose, showed her Fall 2014 Collection yesterday. Her designs are feminine, elegant, beautifully made and wearable in a timeless way.
Here are her instagrams as she chronicles the 10 days before the show…from inspiration to the catwalk. Enjoy!

Later this week, I’ll share with you a few of my favorite independent fashion retailers and how you can follow what they are buying and what’s currently in store. That is one of the best ways I know how to support small businesses and to find pieces that really help you create a personal “look”.

Fashion friendly months are ahead…let’s get ready!
