The Birthday Party Project

I love a party…especially a birthday party. And, I REALLY love throwing a birthday party for my children or friends. So, I was immediately touched when I learned about The Birthday Party Project. The mission is simple: Bring JOY to homeless children through the magic of birthdays.

About to celebrate it’s 5th birthday, The Birthday Party Project will host over 315 parties this year. I love that Halo Home by KWS will donate party hats for a birthday for each set of their “party hat” cocktail napkins that are sold.  I think this may be my favorite birthday gift for friends this coming year.

In addition, there are many ways you can support this incredible group. Just go to their website to learn more.

Girl Power: Girls Inc x Little Lux

I’m often asked how I decide what to write about. It usually is something that I have, or love, wish I had or something that moves me. Today is a case of…it moves me.

Gunner Lux/Little Lux is a father/daughter endeavor of creating unique and meaningful jewelry. I think this may be their first collaboration and I think it’s a brilliant one…with Girls Inc.

Did you know?

  1. I in 4 girls will not finish high school
  2. 1 in 5 girls will be a victim of childhood sexual abuse
  3. 3 in 10 girls will become pregnant before the age of 20
  4. 78% of girls are unhappy with their bodies

$5 from the purchase of each necklace will go to the Girls Inc of Greater Atlanta. If you have a special little girl in your life, consider giving her this necklace that bears such a positive message, while supporting girls that need your help. You can order one here.

Delicious, Delectable & Dangerous

Mmmmmmm…..don’t these desserts look delicious? Well, for some children I personally know, they are simply dangerous.

Peanut butter. Eggs. Dairy. Wheat. And the list goes on.

Today, over 15 million Americans, including nearly 6 million children are suffering from life threatening allergies….and something as simple as eating in the school cafeteria, attending a birthday party or eating out at a restaurant can carry terrifying risks.

So, today, I want to highlight the work of FAAN (The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network), and the FAAN Walk For Food Allergy events happening around the country (this weekend in Westchester County) that are being held to raise awareness and research funding.

You may personally know someone who carries an EPI pen with them, have a child who suffers from life threatening allergies or never thought much about it at all.

Each of us can make a difference, so today I dedicate this post to my young friends Grace, Jack, Henry and Luke and all the other children out there who have no choice but to trust the adults around them.

My wish for them is that a cure will someday be found!
