Dinner at WestWard on Vashon Island

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be in one of those homes on the cover of a magazine cover? I certainly have. And, now I know. It’s pretty darn amazing.
During my trip to Seattle, I was invited, along with friend and interior designer, Marianne Simon, to visit Ted Kennedy Watson at his weekend home, which he shares with husband, Ted Sive, on Vashon Island. You may have seen it on the July/August cover of Flower Magazine. If you’d like to read the article, click here.
The setting was heavenly. Reached via ferry from Seattle, along winding roads, we descended 8 flights of stairs to this oasis high above the water’s edge. The table was set in true Ted style….blue and white, glassybabys lit, fun objets that I’m only now really seeing as I look back upon the photos. That’s what’s so fun about a table setting at Ted’s. There are so many layers.
Individual dahlias, lining the center of the table, created a big impact.
Our appetizers were a treat for the mouth and the eyes. We tried out some new items that Ted will begin carrying at Watson Kennedy. Everything got a thumbs up! The Inna jam is so crazy good that I had to ship a couple of jars home! Made in small batches, it is delicious!
Sweet Bailey kept us company.
As we enjoyed a delicious dinner and the sun set in the distance, we talked and laughed until it was time to catch the ferry home.
Hospitality is about creating an inviting experience in your home…whatever your style. And, that is something Ted has in spades!

Cinco de Mayo – Personalized Piñatas

Happy May!

There are a lot of fun days to celebrate this month: The Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, but one of my all time favorites is Cinco di Mayo!!! I’m sure it’s a Texas-thing. Tex-Mex is hands down my favorite food category. Give me a a basket of chips and guacamole and a fresh made margarita (on the rocks with salt, please), and I am a happy gal!

I’ve been playing around with table settings for a casual celebration and had to share my new source for custom, mini piñatas

Lula Flora will let you select as many tissue colors + 1 metallic color for your custom piñata! I chose hot pink, lime green, orange, purple, yellow and gold metallic.
These are very well made, with a hidden opening for candy or small treats. I’m not sure I have the heart to rip these apart, as they make for such a cute party favor or place card for a fiesta any time!

Wishing you mucho fun this weekend! Whether you’re watching the Derby with mint juleps or sitting on the sidelines of your child’s sporting events!

Life is the fiesta!! Make yours full of color!!

Let’s Play Dress Up – Your Table

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We had the perfect mix of summer party + parent/child golf tournament (my husband, not me) + relaxation. The summer ideal.

Over the weekend, I was also excited to see that chic monogram company, Lettermade, debuted their series of dinner napkins. So, treat yourself to a fresh set of napkins for your table. Just like we change out our clothing for each season (you wouldn’t wear a leather jacket to the pool), we need to change out our table linens. And, we don’t need to wait for company.

Dress up isn’t just for little girls….and it isn’t restricted to our closets!

Let’s play and make things pretty!
