Todd Fiscus, whose firm did the flowers for my mother’s 70th birthday party, is a fixture on the Dallas event scene. You can find him currently in the November issue of Southern Living, setting a Thanksgiving table with a dramatic black-and-lavender color scheme. Probably not what you were expecting.
Todd suggests adding black for big impact.
Use a black place mat, napkin and charger, but lighten the look with a white dinner plate. For a more traditional Thanksgiving color, try linens in chocolate brown.
Todd’s number one holiday tip:
“Stress less about the details, and put more energy into the people”.
So, who are you entertaining for Thanksgiving?
Loving the black details, especially with those pretty pansies. Good advice… I will try to remember it when I get in my "high strung" moments of entertaining.

OH that's great! I will try to remember the Fiscus-Fuss-Factor!! The black accents mean "lay those worries to rest honey, life if good!" Leave it to a Dallasite to be poised and praiseworthy 🙂 Have a great weekend XOXO, Kelly
Sorry, I couldn't even type Mr. Todd's name correctly…FICUS. Now I feel better 🙂
OK..the black? The purple? Really? I might have to wipe the drool off my keyboard soon! 🙂 You Dallas girls really have it going on, thanks for sharing this talented man with us! XXX
Love that piece of advice. The table and flowers are so elegant!

Love Todd's advice and his beautiful style! Thanks for the introduction… your mother's party must have been beautiful!

He is so incredibly talented! I love the purple palatte! XX!
I love the lavender–really fresh and pretty. Still working on the Thanksgiving details–a bit of a hot potato!
I love his holiday tip! The lavender is such a refreshing touch…
Beautiful work! I also love his tip. Very important. Thanksgiving for my entire family, parents, siblings etc. is always at my house. I absolutely love doing it. It's my favorite holiday.
My Southern Living magazine is on my stack of catch up reading for the week. Great table setting and even greater tip!

Elizabeth, the pink buddha necklace arrived yesterday! Thank you so much!! Have a fun-filled fall weekend…xo…Cathy
I am crazy about
this combo, Elizabeth!
Todd really has great
color sense. I think
the purple would also
look wonderful with
chocolate brown….Maybe
purple asters, for autumn!
Happy Friday Flowers : )!!
xx Suzanne
Love this color combo – very unexpected. I think it would also be great on New Year's Eve too.
I just love tabletop – it's such a fun venue for creative expression. This combination is stunning and so unexpected! Love the little squirrel theme.
How stunning! The purple and black is so dramatic and wonderful.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I so look forward to it.
I cannot do the black tulips, no matter what anyone says. I can, however do an entire garden in blue and use orange to make it visible. I'm too old for French black nails, in any hue, and I could never grow a black flower. All the rest was pretty.
Best,
Liz
I do love how black can immediately add a sophistication and how it can work beyond halloween. Now I want to plant black tulip bulbs along with stressing less about the details and put more energy into the people. My people will love that too.
Enjoy the weekend.

You can never go wrong with black! It is high impact and looks beautiful with every color.
