What has my young design friend, Sam Allen, been up to?
Well….most recently he was asked by the prestigious Connecticut Cottages & Gardens magazine to design their tabletop for the Annual Red Cross Red & White Ball in Greenwich, CT. Since I couldn’t attend the event in person, Sam snapped some photos of his tabletop prep so we could see them before they appear in the June issue!!
And, being the resourceful chap he is….he recycled a few things from his 2011 vignette at the Albert Hadley’s Rooms With a View. Like the fabulous navy and white stripe fabric from Ralph Lauren. Remember these?
Next, he mixed in some blue and white ginger jars from Lillian August.
Sam has a great tip when grouping items that are of a similar color…make sure you group them in different sizes and in odd numbers so they don’t appear too staged.
Sam mixed the high and low by using stemmed silver bowls from Pottery Barn…filled with pink peonies and orange pansies. Love the navy, pink and orange combination!
Chargers and salad plates are simply divine pottery by Frances Palmer.
And, what better to fill the centerpiece with than cherry blossoms! I’m sure the guests that sat at Sam’s spectacular table had an evening to remember.
So, when the June issue of CC&G hits news stands or digital tablets….you can see the finished product. But, lucky you….you’ve already had a sneak peek!
Elizabeth,
What a gorgeous table and guy! Sam is so dreamy~
I found a stunning burlap ribbon yesterday and thought about using that for a table with white china, a rustic cheese boards and herbs as party favors with lots and lots of candle light in mercury glass votives….can you see it.
Flowers would be gerber daisies or something yellow.
I am craving yellows….so bowls of lemons would be plentiful. Lemons in vases with Spring branches.

So beautiful..of course I love it, its got blue and white! I do use blue and white and I love it with white flowers but also love adding pops of bright vivid colors too, also like placing small votives at each place setting and maybe small bud vase with a single bud if the setting allows for it. Its so much for to get creative and play around! Love the gorgeous inspriration here!!
Sam's a cutie and he did a beautiful table. I can't wait for my Hydrangeas and Peonies to come out what a great mix. Great tips for grouping items too.
Enjoy your day!

Amazing! I've been wanting to do a navy/orange look & I think this just prompted me to start 🙂
Wow, Elizabeth-
Sam knows how to deliver a punch! I love everything he has done here. The table couldn't be more beautiful, and I love the vignette.
I am using navy and white stripes in a beach bungalow and love what he has done here.
Happy Thursday.
