You might want to make space in your beach bag because you’re going to want to toss in a copy of Susie Orman Schnall’s latest novel, The Subway Girls! I am thrilled to celebrate the publication of my friend’s third book tomorrow! It’s already made the summer reading lists of Instyle Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar among others!
The Subway Girls, set in NYC, has a dual timeline narrative. Charlotte circa 1949 and Olivia in 2018. Follow along as these two bright and beautiful women manage the struggle between love, happiness and ambition, while they navigate their professional passion of advertising. How do they both connect via the real life Miss Subways campaign of the 1940s? You’ll have to read this face-paced, clever novel to find out!
Yes….there really was a beauty pageant that put the faces of Miss Subways on the walls of the Metro North. Below are some of the publicity shots that were published. In one scene in the book, Susie re-imagines this very moment.
To make this week even more exciting, please join me and Susie at our friend, Kerri Rosenthal’s amazing shop in Westport, CT this Thursday evening. We’ll talk about the book, what inspired the story and some tidbits you won’t hear anywhere else! Susie will be signing books (great gift idea!!) and there will be nibbles and drinks. Come help me toast Susie!
And, if you’re a reader in a different part of the country, check out when Susie might be in your area. She’s an absolute doll and smart as a whip. Be sure and tell her you read PPT!
I just love a great book. Don’t you?!
Elizabeth, thank you so much for featuring The Subway girls in this gorgeous post! So looking forward to our event together on thursday. xoxox
