Twice a month for the past year, I’ve been driving past a sign on a winding road in Armenia, NY, on my way to see my son at boarding school. Troutbeck. Hmmm….didn’t really know what it was. I was always on a schedule and Troutbeck was hidden from the road.
Now, I know! It is a historically relevant country home that has been reinvented and reinvigorated. And, it’s open for business! Weekend getaways in any season (think fly fishing, biking, hiking, tennis, pool, skiingetc…), fine dining, special events, overnight stays….just 2 hours from NYC. Even closer for me!
This special home, now inn, has played host to literary and political luminaries, such as Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thurgood Marshall, Ernest Hemingway and Theodore Roosevelt. Imagine the conversations within these walls!
Now, the walls are just more chic with a facelift and tuck from renowned designer, Alexandra Champalimaud. It was her son, Anthony, and daughter-in-law, Charlie, who found the property and had the vision for its comeback.
My son has 2 more years at school, so I’m already thinking about when I can stop in for a meal or an overnight stay!
