Black Toast by Emma Bridgewater

6409646e5859f5827342f76b3216b7aeEmma Bridgewater makes the cutest pottery patterns! As I pack away my heart pattern by her, I’m looking to others that are more usable year road. One of my favorites is called Black Toast. This is every day stuff…especially perfect for a leisurely weekend breakfast or brunch.

I think this is especially perfect for a host/hostess gift if you are making an overnight stay. I started a collection for dear friends  when I visited this summer. Now, when I’m stumped as what to take as a gift…I’ll just add to their collection!3b9c2ef2d320e40bad6edf551b5c09ad 49d9b0e40c3c6be216f4cb2392528b7a 365da1e43ffaaa7c1104fadc35edb058 785008e354d0b4e2befc0d858f7bd75a ce4827164cedbd7b66dc770c60d2732c dcf6504dffc30f9ba86a5e5c063cd8edThe other good thing…this pattern will literally go with any kitchen or color scheme! It’s perfect for anyone. Some things are just…black and white!

New Month, New Start

160829_goop_0584-1Continuing with the idea of September being a new start for many (new school year, renewed focus, jumpstart the coming year), I thought it would be fun to share some simple, yet clever ideas to make the most of this month.

My husband turned me onto this relatively new method of planning/organizing/journaling after seeing an article in the WSJ. And, I must admit to being intrigued. I have gone back and forth between paper and digital and have a few tools I try to use each day, so this simplified version is something I am considering. You can learn more about it here!le-catch-luncheon-1-1024x6833. Plan a Fall gathering before the crush of the holidays is upon us. Take inspiration from this gorgeous, outdoor fete created by designer,  Jenni Kayne, Le Catch and Jessica De Ruiter. Recipes and addtional photos here!

Just as students are beginning a new year and learning new things….perhaps we can, too!

Breakfast for Two in the Garden

The oppressive heat finally broke yesterday, and it made me think how nice it would be to enjoy breakfast in the garden this weekend. Sometimes it’s fun to make a trial run before you entertain…kind of like putting together an outfit for an evening out, trading one accessory for another, until you decide what looks best.

In this case, I mixed old with new. My mother’s Gold Florentine china (gold dragons flank the rim), Maria Daage chargers in pink, vintage pink glasses and pitcher from my pal, Eddie Ross, these new dragon-motif napkins from Number Four Eleven in Savannah (they originally appeared in Southern Living in 2010) and my new, wipeable linen Parentesi placemats from La Gallina Matta.

The colors coordinate with the mandevilla growing on my back steps. I love looking out at them every day!

I’m thinking coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, home made biscuits and scrambled eggs with herbs. With a little Chet Baker playing in the background. Now, that’s a good start to the weekend!

What are you planning for the weekend ahead?
