Dana’s Bakery – Macarons

Screen Shot 2017-07-13 at 11.48.41 PMHappy Bastille Day!!

I thought for many years that I didn’t like macarons. And, then I went to Paris and discovered I had actually just never had a good macaron. These little morsels (gluten free and kosher) seem to be having their moment in the sun – perhaps taking the place of cupcakes and cakepops.

I was happy to discover that there is an American pastry chef (and former photo editor) in NY, Dana Loia, who has combined American flavor favorites with the French style of dessert. At Dana’s Bakery you can find flavors such as strawberry shortcake, fruity cereal, cookie dough, peanut butter and jelly, red velvet and champagne! Packaged perfectly for gift giving, these make a darling hostess gift of birthday surprise.

They ship nationwide, but also offer daily delivery to NYC! And, there are even macaron making classes this Fall!Screen Shot 2017-07-13 at 11.52.56 PM Screen Shot 2017-07-13 at 11.53.57 PMViva la France…the American way!

6409646e5859f5827342f76b3216b7aeEmma Bridgewater makes the cutest pottery patterns! As I pack away my heart pattern by her, I’m looking to others that are more usable year road. One of my favorites is called Black Toast. This is every day stuff…especially perfect for a leisurely weekend breakfast or brunch.

I think this is especially perfect for a host/hostess gift if you are making an overnight stay. I started a collection for dear friends  when I visited this summer. 5 Ways to Add Glamour to Your Holiday Gifts

brown-gold-and-white-holler-dollar-christmas-wrap-3We’re nearing mid December, so no pressure….but, it’s time to get wrapping! Even if you’re still searching for the perfect gift, here are 5 ideas on how to dress it up and add some glamour to your wrapping. As my mother always said…the wrapping IS part of the gift!

  1. Add sparkle – nothing says “celebrate” like a little glitter
  2. Top your gift with candy – if you have some extra candy canes in the kitchen, slide one under the bow
  3. Tie on an ornament, jingle bells or the first letter of the recipient’s name
  4. Add a spring of greens, berries or pinecones
  5. Layer your ribbons, so that your gift has textural interest and depth
