Artist Spotlight – Casey Matthews

0eb778708c6b56e1f2452d93a8a921c5The artwork of Casey Matthews has always spoken to me. I love her approach with mixed media and the energy that her paintings exude. A Texas native (that might have a little bit to do with my attraction) now resides in Florida and I’m sure the beauty and light influence her work.

Casey says of her painting, “My intention is to create layers of information through my technique, and combine the bold structure of graphic design and pattern with spontaneous painting; leading your mind’s eye on an aesthetic journey through the process of emotion and contradiction.” I couldn’t say it better.3b761402885c53b3449612c37c97b5b6 4e9741810ba99d2b00d1400c4a840ebb 83e3965853d8cbc4482b6b6aff08c0f0 673ba1c363d49058580874483badd1c7 240622751f3f81fcbb6747e86147eae8 a2e371d39678b0c176cbd9643e6630a2 b2386fc423baf143c698e75a88e3e6c8 d762c38e3ed3e5dd2f75b29fce898082 de82c8fff72b9c7b350069e637804c62

I just love the journey that my mind’s eye takes when looking at Casey’s work. I’m drawn in and then I want to step back and take it all in.

Special Event on May 20th – Artist Jeanne McKay Hartmann

unnamed-8Get out your calendars and mark down Friday, May 20th! My dear friend and Seattle based artist, Jeanne McKay Hartmann will be making a special 1-day only appearance at Nest Inspired Home in Rye, New York between 1-5pm. Her visit coincides with the Rye Home Tour, so tour the houses in the morning and then stop by before or after lunch to meet her, say hello and see her sought after watercolors!

Jeanne’s mother always carried crayons in her handbag to keep her daughter’s busy hands occupied. Portraits of Queen Elizabeth, the family dog and flowers drawn on restaurant paper placemats were the artist’s first works. Today, she creates commissioned pieces for private clients such as Aerin Lauder and custom paintings for retailers, including her favorite Seattle shop, Watson Kennedy and now on the East Coast at Nest Inspired Home. She is known for happy, vibrant watercolors that capture the beauty of life’s everyday moments and has been touted by both Town & Country and Elle Decor.
unnamed-9For this upcoming event, Jeanne has created a capsule collection, especially for Nest Inspired Home, based upon our conversations about how people live and what they appreciate in our corner of the world.  Below is a glimpse of what will be in store. If something captures your eye, please contact Nest Inspired Home directly via or 914.921.NEST (6378) to ensure you can have one of Jeanne’s original paintings! Her art is widely followed on Instagram, and her original works sell quickly, so don’t miss this opportunity!unnamed unnamed-1 unnamed-2In addition to her framed pieces, Jeanne will be painting live, in store, from 1-5pm, creating original 4 x 6 watercolors of monogramed, flower-filled tote bags, ready to carry into summer. Each work is “one of a kind”, and would make a perfectly lovely and unique hostess gift to give this season. Or birthday gift. Or a little gift for yourself. Take a peek at what she created for me and for the ladies at Nest Inspired Home! I will be there the entire time and would love to personally introduce you to Jeanne!!!unnamed-3 unnamed-5 unnamed-10A native Pacific Northwest girl, Jeanne lives in Seattle with her husband when she’s not packing her brushes and sketchbook for Paris, Nantucket, Sun Valley or other faraway places. Trust me when I tell you she is the girlfriend you would all love to have! We are so fortunate that Jeanne loves New York City and Nantucket and is fitting in a trip to Rye between visiting both places!

Jeanne’s work has become so popular, that her wait list to begin new work starts in early 2017. As a special treat to my readers, both local or virtual, she is reserving 6 spots at the beginning of the year for custom work. If you have something special in mind….a house portrait, pet portrait, favorite vacation place, garden or bar cart vignette or something else….please contact Nest Inspired Home to reserve one of these coveted spots!unnamed-12

I can’t wait to see you all and introduce you to my darling, talented friend! See you Friday, May 20th between 1-5pm!

Artist Spotlight: Sally King Benedict

Jaffe+copyI’m always on the look out for talented artists, so when one continues to pop up again and again, I take notice. Sally King Benedict is not new on the scene…in fact, I’ve been admiring her work for a couple of years. And, what I’ve learned is that when you wait too long….their art becomes more collectible and more expensive. Let’s just say I wish I had one of her paintings already!

In particular, I am drawn to her faces. They have an instantly recognizable style, yet are all unique. Other artists are doing “faces” now, but I really love Sally’s take.sally-king-benedict Marigot+FaceFERN+FACE Plantation+Face Tilly+Face Untitled+9Hopefully, Sally will be painting for many, many years to come. And, that gives me hope that I might one day have one of her paintings in my home.

If you love an artist….don’t wait too long to purchase their work. They could be the world’s next Warhol or Matisse!
