Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monoghan

Beach Rules:
Do take long walks on the sand.
Do put an umbrella in every cocktail.
Do NOT run into your first love.

Sam’s life is on track. She has the perfect doctor fiancé, Jack (his strict routines are a good thing, really), a great job in Manhattan (unless they fire her), and is about to tour a wedding venue near her family’s Long Island beach house. Everything should go to plan, yet the minute she arrives, Sam senses something is off. Wyatt is here. Her Wyatt. But there’s no reason for a thirty-year-old engaged woman to feel panicked around the guy who broke her heart when she was seventeen. Right?

Yet being back at this beach, hearing notes from Wyatt’s guitar float across the night air from next door as if no time has passed—Sam’s memories come flooding back: the feel of Wyatt’s skin on hers, their nights in the treehouse, and the truth behind their split. Sam remembers who she used to be, and as Wyatt reenters her life their connection is as undeniable as it always was. She will have to make a choice.

How we created KR Book Club

Summer romance? Yes, please! Witty writing by the wickedly clever, Annabel Monaghan? Yes, again! This was going to be a summer blockbuster…I just knew it. I had gobbled up Annabel’s first novel, Nora Goes Off Script, so I was giddy with excitement to read Same Time Next Summer! And, then I saw the cover.

About the same time, I had paid a visit to my friend, Kerri Rosenthal, at her airy, expansive flagship shop in Westport, CT. While chatting about art and life, I had a thought. Wouldn’t it be fun to host a book party for Annabel there. Kerri is known for her iconic Drippy Heart paintings and yellow is her signature color. Annabel had just written a love story about a young woman who was wearing a yellow dress and there was something about surfing. Well, how convenient…Kerri creates custom, artistic surfboards, too.

This lead to what I like to call “Creative Matchmaking”. Like a good friend who knows two people who might enjoy a date (I actually met my husband on a blind date!), I thought it would be fun to put these two creative women together and see what magic we could make.

Lucky for me, both of them were game and thus was born…KR Book Club!
