Kate Schelter – Classic Style/Creative Soul

033117_KateSchelter_LeadI’ve read some good books this summer, but the one that has jumped to the top of the stack is Kate Schelter’s Classic Style.

I thought it would be a light romp, peppered with her art (which I adore), but it was something much more deep. Part stylist tips, part life hacks….Kate shares her life, her path and the nuggets that she felt were most important to pass along. And, of course, her whimsical watercolors are found throughout.

I’ve always been drawn to artists and creatives….and Kate is no different. With a background at Vogue, assisting Annie Leibovitz on photo shoots, as an artist and illustrator, a stylist a brand expert….her careers and life experiences are not only fascinating, but worth learning from.

I love to see what creative people surround themselves with, so was delighted to find these photos of Kate’s current home with her husband, Chris and daughter, Charlotte. Bright, happy, colorful and full of personality…I was tickled to see there was a heavy dose of pink. I even spotted my favorite pink tulips.033117_KateSchelter_33033117_KateSchelter_22033117_KateSchelter_26033117_KateSchelter_34Screen Shot 2017-07-27 at 10.30.33 PM033117_KateSchelter_36summer-exhibits.0dbcb76c6557c8b751ebd1e81675650dPerfect to read and keep, but also perfect to give…Classic Style is the kind of book that you’ll enjoy now, reach for later and will stand the test of time. As Kate says…”Hand it down, dress it up, wear it out.”

Wrap It Up

il_570xN.1151928041_1pcjI’m always on the look out for unique, pretty gift wrap….as it’s always good to have some on hand. The packaging is such an important part of any gift. It telegraphs the thoughtfulness of the present before it’s even opened. And, it can elevate the simplest of gifts.

I stumbled upon these adorable prints by A Thing Created….you can guess which is my favorite. But, I think they are all worth adding to my gift wrap station!il_570xN.908473079_kn9r il_570xN.908691928_acpjil_570xN.1217651448_gn9w il_570xN.1209266313_ipc6il_570xN.1135929394_glb3Now, I just have to find the perfect gifts and wrap them up!

Artist Spotlight – Wayne Pate

You know when you keep seeing something or being drawn to something that it is a sign that it is “speaking to you”. Well…that’s the way I feel about the artwork of Wayne Pate.

Classical and whimsical at the same time, there is a Matisse-like vibe to his artwork that just pulls me in. Originally from Texas (you gotta love those Texans), he has lived in New York since the 1990’s, and currently resides in Brooklyn with his wife, fashion designer, Rebecca Taylor, and their 3 daughters.

Largely self taught, Pate begins his work in his sketchbook, concentrating on lines and imbuing his work with a sense of movement. A favorite of interior designers and collectors, you may have seen his work in Lonny, various galleries or One Kings Lane, which is where I picked up 2 of his pieces (Tulips and Garden Scene, No 1).Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.07.39 PM wayne_pate_studio_tour_painting Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.01.48 PM Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.02.05 PM Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.02.20 PM

He’s definitely one to watch!

Here’s to an artful week ahead!
