Artist Spotlight – Wayne Pate

You know when you keep seeing something or being drawn to something that it is a sign that it is “speaking to you”. Well…that’s the way I feel about the artwork of Wayne Pate.

Classical and whimsical at the same time, there is a Matisse-like vibe to his artwork that just pulls me in. Originally from Texas (you gotta love those Texans), he has lived in New York since the 1990’s, and currently resides in Brooklyn with his wife, fashion designer, Rebecca Taylor, and their 3 daughters.

Largely self taught, Pate begins his work in his sketchbook, concentrating on lines and imbuing his work with a sense of movement. A favorite of interior designers and collectors, you may have seen his work in Lonny, various galleries or One Kings Lane, which is where I picked up 2 of his pieces (Tulips and Garden Scene, No 1).Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.07.39 PM wayne_pate_studio_tour_painting Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.01.48 PM Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.02.05 PM Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 9.02.20 PM

He’s definitely one to watch!

Here’s to an artful week ahead!

Friday Flowers – The Flower Guy

Screen Shot 2017-01-26 at 9.59.30 PMDid you happen to notice some Springtime blooms adorning the latest J.Crew catalog? I’m completely charmed by them and wanted to learn more.

Two years ago, Michael De Feo, aka @theflowerguy, decided to doctor a J. Crew ad at a bus stop in NYC and instagram it. He thought they would be upset. J.Crew regrammed it. And, then….they invited him to collaborate with them on their latest collection. Screen Shot 2017-01-26 at 10.04.05 PMThe ad that started it all.Screen Shot 2017-01-26 at 10.12.26 PMScreen Shot 2017-01-26 at 10.12.41 PMScreen Shot 2017-01-26 at 10.15.26 PMThumbScreen Shot 2017-01-26 at 10.04.21 PM Screen Shot 2017-01-26 at 10.05.01 PM

Wishing you flowers where you don’t expect them and a very happy weekend ahead!

XOKR – Kerri Rosenthal

img_0499Something new and exciting is happening in Westport, CT!

Award-winning artist (perhaps known best for her iconic Drippy Hearts)  and interior designer, Kerri Rosenthal, has recently opened Kerri Rosenthal, a flagship concept store which will serve as a working art studio, gallery space and curated shop of everything Kerri lives in, loves and swears by. As with most things, Kerri does….this isn’t your typical shop. The moment I walked in and saw the paint splattered floor you see above, I knew it was from her former art studio. That floor has been turned into a textile pattern that now graces chairs, pillows and more.

The shop will have 5 “concepts” each year. Now, you’ll find Holiday, which will be followed by Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, so the colors and the offerings in the shop will constantly be changing. Kerri has already designed the patterns for the upcoming seasons, so if you are looking for more color than what is in store right now, you can visit the website!  If you want to try something on apporval….take home a pillow, see if it works and if it does…she’ll have it ordered and to you in 2 weeks. Instant gratification!

Among the curated items you’ll find pieces from her new XO Bijoux collection, her favorite perfume, Clare Vivier clutches, her favorite candle, striped shirts by Kule and nubby knitted hats. A little bit of everything that she loves! 64a60a_50db42396ace42cd9d6759e0324b1cac-mv2_d_5520_3680_s_4_2img_0524img_0500 img_0505 img_0506 img_0507img_0523 img_0509 img_0511 img_0513 img_0514 img_0515 img_0516 img_0517 img_0522 img_0530 img_0533 img_0535 img_0537The website contains much of her collection, but the best way to really understand the creative energy of Kerri’s new concept is to visit in person. This weekend she’s hosting her debut of Holiday 2016, so I encourage you to stop by this Saturday!screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-10-07-55-pmThere are a lot of original and special shops out there, but I really can’t recall anything that was so vividly reflective of it’s creator. I’m so excited that the shop will be evolving with each concept…giving me the perfect excuse to go again….and again!
