The Pretty Pink Tulips

DSC_0329I literally wait all year for this.

The two to three weeks that my pink tulips are in bloom! As with most of the past 8 years, they bloom just in time for Mother’s Day. I sneaked in a few shots of the pink tulips that are in the backyard (first year for those), but overall this is the front and side of our home. I noticed that the tulips appear lighter or darker in some photos…this is just based on the light and time of day I took the photo.

The tulips in the front are called Menton. The smaller ones in the back are called Angelique. Enjoy….the pretty pink tulips!DSC_0332 DSC_0338 DSC_0363 DSC_0365 DSC_0371IMG_2441DSC_0367 IMG_2462 DSC_0370 DSC_0346IMG_2443We plant over a 1000 bulbs each year. If you are considering tulips for your garden, I encourage you to plant more than you think and to plant them in clusters, not in a row.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who are nuturing the coming generations, in the weeds of parenting or enjoying an empty nest and the fruits of their efforts! These flowers are for you!

Celebrating Mother’s Day with Heirlooms

DSC_0350One of the keys to effortless entertaining is to use what you have. And, to use things in ways that they weren’t intended.

For this Mother’s Day, I decided to combine the beautiful, baby pink Angelique tulips in my garden (they are reminiscent of roses when they open up and smell like honey) with my great-grandmother’s crystal sherry glasses and our silver baby cups. Theses are cherished family heirlooms that seldom get “used”. I love how I can bridge generations at one table.

Here are a few other ideas on how to incorporate heirlooms into your celebration. Consider using each family member’s baby cup as a place card, either filled with flowers or candy. Bring out your grandmother’s china, crystal or silver and mix it with your every day dishes. Use baby spoons in candy dishes.

A friend of mine collects silver baby cups and ties them on her stair garland at Christmas. I think they’d be darling hung from the dining room chandelier with ribbons, too. DSC_0355DSC_0353 IMG_2412DSC_0365 DSC_0356DSC_0363 IMG_2411 IMG_2414IMG_2417 IMG_2415Hop over to my Instagram account (@prettypink2lips) to see if you won the Tulip Nouveau pillow by one of the coolest moms I know…Kerri Rosenthal!

Do you have any traditions for celebrating Mother’s Day?

Kerri Rosenthal – Give Away!

IMG_0029-1I first met award-winning artist, Kerri Rosenthal, in 2011. At that time she was painting and painting and painting! She was on something of a creative roll and I could sense something special happening. You can read my first article on her here. A lot has happened in the ensuing years. Kerri continued to evolve her craft and her art began to reflect new styles, new subjects and to include photography (her new Le Biblioteque series is one I love), as well as interior design.Screen Shot 2017-05-02 at 8.50.22 PMHer work had always been admired and used by interior designers, so it was no surprise that her art began appearing in At Home, Domino, Luxe Interiors & Design, CTC&G and Traditional Home. Her “Drippy Heart” is a favorite of many and went stratospheric when it appeared on the walls of Amanda Nisbet’s office in Domino Magazine.thumb_KR.Domino_1024Fast forward a few years.

Kerri evolved from an artist into a full blown brand. Last year, Kerri knew the time was right and opened her namesake Concept Shop in Westport, CT where she extended her original art into a home and lifestyle collection, XOKR. She has already released 40 designs that she incorporated into fabric, wallpaper and an exclusive line of furnishings.

But, that’s not all! In addition to Kerri’s own XOKR designs, she has curated items from her favorite brands, so that you are walking into a shop of her “favorite things”. Lines that you’ll find include: Clare V, Kule Stripes, Figure Love, Current Elliot, Ace + Jig, Jess Brown Design, and her own XOKR Bijoux collection.

Everything is blended into a visual color package. Stacks of stylish books are mixed with art, jewelry, clothing and home accessories which create a serious style vibe that you might find in St Barths or Venice Beach’s Abbott Kinney. It’s everything you never knew you needed, but don’t want to live without. And, if you find that you want/need more….Kerri has a team dedicated to bringing this vibe into your home through her interior design firm, Space + CO.Screen Shot 2017-05-02 at 8.57.36 PMxokrIMG_0093IMG_0559HEART BRACELET_02 (GOLD_SILVER)IMG_0507-1024x768 IMG_0524-e1478051367255-768x1024 IMG_0129Even more important….it’s a happy place. A place you want to visit often, as I do! (You can read a post I did in on her shop here.) With each new collection, Kerri hosts a Pop Up event, creating a party atmostphere and one where fun and art collide. You can visit the Concept Shop at 10 Sconset Square in Westport, CT!IMG_0674But, today is a celebration of our shared love of tulips!
